Afro hair HT Help and advice

Hi,

I am 56 years old, afro hair, I had FUT 20 years ago in London, UK I wan not satisfied with the result.
Now I am exploring the possibility if second HT preferably FUE.

I understand FUE is more difficult on afro hair due to it's curled characteristics and considering the fact that I had FUT as it was mentioned above which limits my donor area, I am looking for an experienced doctor in afro hair.

I have few questions (see the attached photos):

1. Does FUE suits me? If not what about FUT?
2. How many grafts are needed?
3. Is my donor area is good enough to provide the required number of grafts?
4. Any recommendations or suggestions for clinics with good experience and proven results on afro hair.

I am not taking any medications, no travel restrictions, the cost is the last thing to consider.

Your help, advice and support will be appreciated.

Your donor does not look that great… I would consult with Medikemos, BHR and Mwamba all in Belgium…..but I think they will all want to see you in person.

Hi Ali. It looks as though you’ve lost the native hair surrounding and behind the transplanted grafts.

Because the grafts are a C shape it makes them difficult to extract.
The doctors mentioned by Bullitnut all have examples of Afro hair patients.

Only a doctor will be able to answer this. I’d say they would require seeing you in person.

Graft numbers depends on what you want to achieve.

Again, this depends on your expectations and what grafts you have available via seeing a doctor.

Being open to travel is good. Why have you not taken any medications?
Without medications your loss will probably continue.

To get a decent amount of grafts it is probably going to mean obviously thinning out of your donor hair. If it´s done well it maybe possible to still look natural just thinner. You need to have a good idea what your donor can give and then discuss your expectations.

You are right. I know I need to see at least 2 doctors in person for consultation.

Your donor looks quite thin. Finasteride or Dutasteride will be your best option. These meds can strengthen miniaturised hairs. It’s possible to use beard and chest hair as a filler to add density.
Get in touch with a couple of clinics to see what advice they provide.

I have read about the medics you mentioned but some web sites are warning from some serious side effects. Theses medics do they prevents hair loss or also helps to regrew and strength the existing hair including donar area which could be used for transplant.
I have to read more about it.
I contacted a clinic in turkey and based on the same photos they said the following:

(You don’t have good donor areas.
Your donor area is not available/not good enough for an operation and your bald area (recipient) is too large.)

While another clinic in the same country said the donor area is good!!!

All medications have a possible side effect. You won’t know until you try them. It’s been documented that 2-5% of people may experience sides. The topical version of Finasteride are suppose to further reduce the risk.

These are side effects from a popular pain med.

• changes in your vision;
• shortness of breath (even with mild exertion);
• swelling or rapid weight gain;
• a skin rash, no matter how mild;
• signs of stomach bleeding - bloody or tarry stools, coughing up blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds;
• liver problems - nausea, upper stomach pain, itching, tired feeling, flu-like symptoms, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes);
• low red blood cells (anemia) - pale skin, feeling light-headed or short of breath, rapid heart rate, trouble concentrating; or
• kidney problems - little or no urinating, painful or difficult urination, swelling in your feet or ankles, feeling tired or short of breath.

Who were the clinics who gave these opinions?

Have you considered just shaving or buzzing your hair really short? SMP could be an option too.
