Hi there,

I am a 27 year old male that has been receding since the age of 17/18. I take biotin tablets, DHT blocking shampoos and have been using Minoxodil 5% spray. The spray I have been using for 6 months now with very little results.

Finasteride is a possibility but I have not yet tried this.

Can someone please recommend anything else I can use? The plan is to have a hair transplant (I am currently researching) but wanted to try another means of medication is I do not believe the spray is working for me.

pictures enclosed.

thank you.

I think adding Finasteride to your regimen will help in preventing more loss. The minoxidil could help regrow some miniaturised hairs in your hairline area but this can take up to one year before you see any benefit.
Hair transplant wise, most clinics will prefer you to be on Finasteride, especially abed 27 you’re still quite young.
Are you thinking of lowering your hairline? What are your expectations?

Hi @Bigmac thanks for quick response. I have not ruled out finasteride, but naturally have my reservations due to possible side effects. Regarding hair transplant, I am not looking to lower my hairline, just restore the receding areas / corners. The lower line from the picture below was the design I was looking at.. looks a lot straighter in the picture than in person!

One last question @Bigmac can I go ahead with the subscriptions for finasteride from the likes of sons/ manual or should I be speaking to a doctor before ordering subscriptions online?

thanks

They’re an online pharmacy, they should have you fill in a questionnaire that is checked by a doctor before the prescription is filled.
There are other outlets such as Dr Fox, Oxford and United pharmacies.
There is the risk of sides that you are already aware of.

With you being in your late 20s, you still have a low forelock. I would suggest the clinic design a hairline that looks natural today and also as you age. Something like this hairline will look natural and not so low. As you age it starts to be the focus.

lbc23, I think your idea is good. "not looking to lower my hairline, just restore the receding areas / corners." the green line you did I assume and the one bigmac suggested, similar to each other. Would make a nice improvement for you.

What do you think of the revised hairline drawing?

Hi bigmac, sorry for delayed response. Thanks for your thoughts, I do like the idea of a more conservative hair line as opposed to a straight unnatural line. Hoping to get a HT this year so will document my journey
