Dhi surgery small Fue sessions.

I'm thinking of having Fue surgery in small stages which will be easier to conceal from my friends..... I looked through the results on here particularly Dhi who practice these small sessions as the other clinics seem to have a minimum amount they're willing to do - I was thinking possibly 5 small sessions of 300 grafts at four month intervals. I don't want to shave my head.... Just have the donor hair lifted up in certain areas and shaved underneath leaving no visible signs. Would this be Safe with the time frames between each one? I have a Diffuse thinning pattern which has slowly developed over several years, my donor supply is healthy and I'm currently on Fin - been taking it for two years now.
Any advice appreciated.

If you go this route the doctor will probably plant your grafts in different areas, ie the first lot on left side, next lot on right, then front so they don't piggyback which is planting a graft on top of a graft.
Good luck in whatever you decide.

Hi JimD. First of all thank you for your trust in DHI. About your concerns, depending on your donor area, I would suggest to proceed with two HTs in a 10 months period. In both of them we will scatter the grafts all over your head. In this way you will have a gradual thickening, which can be explained to your friends as the result of a successful therapy. As far as extraction in your donor area is concerned we can do both shaven lines or totally unshaven (with a limitation of extracted grafts in both cases). With the above two techniques nobody would understand that you did something there.

However, I would suggest to you to contact the nearest DHI clinic in order to consult with our doctors or even better to PM me your details (phn number, e-mail) in order to contact you. For our location please visit: http://www.dhiglobal.com/locations/

Hi Peggy, thanks for the reply.... At this stage I'm still undecided if I should go ahead, could you post more information on your unshaven technique as this is interesting.
Regards Jim.

Hi again JimD, Please take a look at the following video, which presents our unshaven extraction technique step by step. with this one there is no need to shave your head not even in line zones.

This is the first time I've witnessed Fue performed this way, how does the doctor determine the extraction pattern if repeat procedures are required?
Those grafts slide out smoothly upon extraction, what size punch is typically used?

This is a new DHI innovative technique, which have been developed for people like you. People that do not want to shave or have visible signs in this part of their scalp after their HT.
The doctor works all over the donor area, as it is explained in the related video and if the patient returns for more sessions the whole procedure is repeated again. The doctor is capable to distinguish the part of the donor area that had been worked in previous sessions.
The size of the punches used is between 0,8-0,95mm, in some cases we use also 0,7 (thin hairs, single hair grafts etc) and in rare cases (multi hairs grafts, curly and thick hairs) we use 1 mm punches.

I presume it's the same, unless they charge a little extra with it taking slightly longer to do the procedure.

Thank you for the comments guys. In DHI we charge by the session (time) and not by grafts. A Mega sessions last around 6-7 hours and on average we can extract around 1500 grafts (depending mainly on the donor area). The unshaven procedure does not have different cost, however, as I have explained in my previous post, the grafts extracted with this method are less (on average 1200 on a Mega session).

Very interesting method. After having FUE myself i would imagine a large 1200 mega session of this type would be very difficult and time consuming for the clinic with the donor hair unshaven, it must take a lot of patience........out of curiosity what is the maximum length the donor area can be?

Good point Bullitnut, what length would you recommend the hair should be to fully conceal the shaven area?

It would certainly take longer doing this method, therefore less grafts.

Certainly less grafts in a day but if I'm only requiring a small amount each time it will be fine.
