Hi All

First post here - so hi. I'm a newcomer here, having posted on another forum.

At the beginning of October I had a 4800+ graft strip procedure.

Total grafts: 4889
1 Hair: 926
2 Hair: 2038
3 Hair: 1403
4 Hair: 522

It was quite a long procedure, started at 07:30 and finished at 18:00.

I'm 47 years old, and started losing hair on the temples aged 25 or so. Minoxidil slowed down the rate of loss.

I'm now over 3 weeks in. Will post some pictures before saying more about how it went.

After the procedure I suffered a lot of swelling, but this subsided after about day 6.

The worst thing was the shock loss around the donor area.

The stitches came out about 10 days ago.

The scar looks like it's going to be very neat. I have heard other people (who used other surgeons) mentioning a 'ridge' where the scar is. I honestly can't feel anything, and have trouble tracing the scar with my finger now. What I hate is the shock loss, and can't wait for this to fade.

Transplant area Day 25

The hair that is growing is not the transplanted hair, it's my native hair - I wasn't completely bald.

It's basically stuck two fingers up to the transplant and started growing immediately. Surprising, as I thought it was minoxidil hair and was going to fade out.

I chose Dr Bisanga because:

- When I travelled to Brussels for the consultation, I felt like it wasn't wasted. He was very thorough in measuring the donor area in different ways, and was clear in what could be achieved.

(I had another consultation with another top surgeon that day, which left me confused. He didn't examine me anywhere near as thoroughly, and kept changing the number of grafts he felt I could get).

- There are lots of donor-area pictures on the Internet from Dr Bisanga. For me this was critical; I realised early on the scars vary a lot.

The only certainty from a HT is a scar and cost. I wanted someone where I could see patient scars.

- Lots of patient comments and feedback.

So far, I don't regret my decision to choose Dr Bisanga. It obvious by the neatness of the transplant, and the scar, that I was in the hands of someone experienced. The proof of the pudding though is how I will look in one years time.

I was not prepared for how miserable I would feel afterwards.

You look way worse than when you go in. I could barely look at the shock loss - shock loss has been worse than anything else for me. In the early days you have nothing positive, just pain and less money.

Patient support had been excellent. Stephen has been great, and I really needed that reassurance afterwards that everything was OK and not to worry. Thanks.

The pain has gone away now, and I'm feeling pretty normal. I just wish the redness in the transplant area would go away. It is fading, but slowly.

I've had some strange looks at work. On the first day back I was gripped with paranoia; I felt like everyone on the tube was staring at me, and that everyone would turn open mouthed when I walked in. I got a few comments, but nothing too much, and I soon relaxed.

I've not used any concealer on the transplant area. I've used a little dermmatch on the scar to try and make it less noticeable. If someone asks directly 'Have you had a transplant' I'll say yes, otherwise I'll keep it to myself.

11299 Hairs transplanted ;)

Dr Bisanga said I hit a 'home run'. Very good laxity and higher than average hair-to-follicle ratio.

I keep fit, don't drink too much, have never smoked, and have a very healthy diet.

Since the HT I've been eating:

- A lot of oily fish like mackerel
- Lots of oily nuts like walnuts
- Lots of assorted berries and fruit
- Lots of eggs
- Lots of green vegetables of different kinds.

Right now I could kill for a pizza.

My hair is growing fast, and I can see the shock loss is just starting to fade.

Hi Modenese

Many thanks for posting your case and experience so far. I enjoyed reading all of the detail and your commitment also shines through in all that you are doing and have done post operatively.

Looking nice and clean and glad the hair is recovering and am sure your diet and regime are a great help also.

Welcome to the forum dude, thanks for posting your experience with Dr Bisanga, BHR ar a class outfit and i am sure things are going to be great. I realise the time straight after the HT can be a bit of a low point so try to remain positive as the guys have said, keep your self preoccupied as its a long journey but soooo worth it in the end.

All the best BN;)

You have awesome graft to hair ratio. Your donor hairs look great and the work itself looks great. You should look forward to a nice head of hair. The donor shock loss hairs generally return 1 1/2 to 2 months post op. Hope you keep us updated of your progress.
