I'm sure it was just an off day...the person did not give their name. But the clinic is not too far from me and hearing encouraging things here...so not giving up just yet. Will be sending pics of balding spots etc. Thank you for your reassurances!

2 Month Update:
Not much happening, as is expected, shed nearly all my grafts, did have the odd spot in the recipient area which you’ll see in the pictures but they went in a few days untouched.

I am still applying aloe vera gel once a day and I feel like the redness has faded pretty well. Nearly out of sebamed shampoo and will be using alpecin caffeine shampoo after that!

I just need to be patient, but I’ll be honest I’m finding it pretty difficult now.. I know I still have a long way to go too..

Hello, so I'm really thankful for a lot of stories on here but I must admit that your comments are the ones which echo my main concerns. I think I've gotten my head around the fact that the first 3 months or so will be hard (especially since I currently cover myself up at the moment. I echo your concerns on the donor area, I'd be gutted to not feel comfortable or to have a noticeable moth eaten look so it's the one thing putting me off right now.

How are you finding it? Have you tried going short yet and how does it look when dry?

All the best with the rest of your progress! I'm sure you'll be delighted with the end result.

Thanks!

Hi SPat88,

I currently live in a cap when I’m outside and that’s my cover up, I’ve only told my partner and parents, no other family or friends, it’s amazing how quickly people get use to your change! No one mentions the cap to be honest - but I just feel uncomfortable wearing it sometimes, and I guess I’m itching to get some hair through.

I’m planning on getting my first trim on my 3 month anniversary of getting the hair transplant, I’m going to go for a grade 3 round the sides and back and leaving the top alone to continue to grow. I’ll be sure to share those pictures on here so hope they help!

Cheers! It’s hard not to get impatient but I know there’s the exciting bit to come..

I’ve booked in for a trim round the sides and back on my 3 month ‘anniversary’ so will post again then

Everything looks to be on track. You`re past the hardest part now. Waiting for the new growth can be anxious but try not to worry as it will come when ready.
Your donor looks in good condition.
This hair cut you`ve scheduled will tidy things up and should help to make you feel better about your hair.

3 Month Update:
So I've found the 2-3 month period the most difficult so far.. But, I think I see and feel some little hairs that are coming through!

I know that there are numerous timelines around the growth stage so it’s hard to know what I should be expecting to be honest.

The Alpecin caffeine shampoo has been a nice change from the sebamed, leaving it in for at least two minutes before washing it out.

My first hair cut was on my 3 month anniversary, I had a grade 3 round the sides and back which is the lowest that The Hair Dr recommended for me for now.

I am slightly worried about my crown and hair loss there, when I went in for surgery Dr A said it looked good and he wouldn’t want to do anything to that area at the moment so I’m not sure. I’ll include a picture below.

All pictures continue to be in harsh overhead bathroom lighting:

4 Month (and a bit) update:
Apologies for a slightly later update, so I’m over 4 months in - 18 weeks tomorrow.

I hate to be negative but wanted to give an honest view to you. I think I am struggling more mentally with things at the moment so that may sway how I’m feeling generally, but I think I’m slightly disappointed with where I am at.

I’m finding it hard to constantly wear a cap in all social occasions which isn’t helping, as I decided to not tell anyone about surgery.

I’ve had two haircuts, my barber fades me in very slightly at the bottom and gives me a 2/3 round the sides and back, he hasn’t touched the top at all yet.

I’d be interested to know what you guys think of my progress month on month? The problem for me is comparisons, I’ve seen people who have a full hairline at under 5 months! And some other great results happening at the moment in threads I follow.

5 Month+ update (23 weeks):
Apologies for the slightly later post again, I will hopefully bring a 6 month update on time!

There are still huge gaps in my hairline but I know there’s a long time to go. It doesn’t help that I am pale and my hair is dark so the contrast highlights things more.

However, I am generally more positive as I can now get away with hair fibres filling my hairline (I think it’s noticeable up close at the moment though I think - my partner doesn’t think so) which is making things easier as I can now go capless and feel comfortable about it.

I’d say I am hoping for a big change between 5-7 months as according to The Hair Dr research on timelines I should go from roughly 16% to 51% of growth in this period.

To be honest, I don't trust a lot of progress pictures on the internet, and even on here. Clinics and 'patients' just trying to get business a lot of the time. Just trust the process, it's still early days

Appreciate the reply djkillab, I know what you mean, it can be hard to know who and what to trust.

I definitely need to be patient still and trust the process!

Still very early days for you @HTL33. It was around month 9-10 when I noticed the biggest growth spurt. Keep the faith and hang in there

Agreed, @Baldingman23.

@HTL33, I'm also pale and dark haired, so that's an additional hair-transplant challenge. I'm glad you're going out without a cap and the fibres fill out your hairline. Hopefully soon you won't need those =).

Take care,
Matt

Comparing to other patient timelines can make you depressed when you’re not seeing much growth yourself. 5 months in and you look to be starting with more growth. You may get a huge burst of growth or it may be slow and steady in the next few months.
It’s good to hear you don’t need the hat now and that your confidence is returning. As well as fibres, you can try Dermmatch which works well in the hairline.
Keep your chin up and try to stay positive.
