FUE OR DHI FOR LARGE AREA

Hello, I received an offer for a hair transplant at the clinic estepalace.co.il/ . The method they recommended to me is FUE, they say it does not suit me DHI because my transplant area is large. After watching some before and after videos I was convinced that they are really good and it is cheap in Turkey.

DHI and FUE aren't mutually exclusive.

DHI is the implantation method where grafts are directly placed into the scalp with a pen (it basically creates the incisions and implants the graft at the same time). It's gotten a lot of praise recently but admittedly a lot of it is just marketing.
FUE is the extraction method where grafts are individual extracted with a punch. The other extraction method is FUT where a strip is taken from the back of the scalp.

Im not really sure why they would say it wouldnt suit you if that is their standard operating technique. If that is your pic it looks like youre a higher NW. Id suggest you do some consults with those clinics that specialise in mega sessions; H&W, Hattingen and Eugenix.

IMO there aren't many reliable places to go in Turkey, HLC, Keser and Pekiner are the stand outs, with Demisroy the most reliable for those on a budget. Id suggest you check out more patient reviews as this industry can be a bit tough to navigate (Turkey has the highest number of black market clinics in the world).

Be careful when choosing a clinic who differentiate between the two, charge more for the latter and claim it has better density.

DHI is the implantation aspect of FUE surgery.

I think you shouldn't be confused about it, just go for FUE which is the standard and result oriented method...

Hello,

Actually DHI and FUE is based on the same extraction method. So we can classify DHI also as FUE. The only difference of DHI is that the implantation of grafts and channel opening is happening simultaneously by the help of CHOI Pens.

The advantage of DHI is it could achieve a higher density. It is possible to transplant 45-60 grafts per cm2 with FUE method whereas with DHI it is possible to go over 80-90 grafts per cm2.

The disadvantage of DHI is that only 2000-2500 grafts will be implanted in one session.

So if you have a large balding part on your scalp DHI may not be appropriate for you. Or you will need at least 2 sessions of DHI to cover all the balding parts which is not that clever.

My advice would be also to proceed with FUE if you have a large area of bald spot. But please be sure that the clinic and your doctor is decent and not a black market clinic. Always check the accreditations of clinics in Turkey.

Best regards,

I don't know if you are aware that this is theory.

If you attend hair surgery meetings, you will find that there are quite a number of studies that have shown that by increasing the density over a certain point, you will achieve less regrowth (indepent of using implanters or manual implantation).
I don't recall the exact numbers, but I believe that a density of 40-50 grafts is achievable in most patients without too much damage to the vascular system.

Furthermore, very few patients with hair loss would need 80-90 grafts anyway.

It's almost impossible to say something without a photo but DHI is pretty good for small bald areas whereas FUE can cover larger areas
