Hairloss over the past 11 years

Hi all,

I've been losing my hair for the best part of ten years, i don't take any medication and have never tried anything.
It has caused me a lot of self confidence issues over the years, culminating in the breakdown of my relationship just after Christmas last year
as i would avoid any social event, due to feeling like everyone was looking at my hair, daft i know and my partner of 10 years decided she had, had enough.
I don't feel like i can start a new relationship due to the issues i have with my hair, my ex always said it didn't bother her, but it did me as i always had really thick hair, both my brothers do and have had no loss, my loss started around the aged of 23/34 when i setup my company and i feel stress has contributed to it, i've also go a lot greyer than my brothers, no real hair loss in my family, so not sure why my hair loss is so bad, i'm now 35.

So here i am almost 6 month later, hoping to get so advice on what i can do and hopefully get my confidence back.

Pictures below.

Thanks all for taking the time to read this and for any advice given.

Hello Dhair. Welcome to the forum.

I`m sorry to hear hair loss has caused you many issues including the break up of your relationship. Hair loss can cause emotional issues, anxiety and insecurities. If you are depressed, it`s a good idea to seek help for that.
The hair loss gene can skip generations, then reappear as it has with you.
I think you should look into Finasteride and possibly Minoxidil to stabilise your loss and possibly improve it by regrowing miniaturised hair.
Your donor looks good so getting a good amount of grafts should be ok. It looks as though some of your hairline is still intact as well.
Check out the results by clinics and send your pictures to a few to see what they suggest is your best approach.

You have to look forwards with life being proactive and positive to get you out of this lifestyle you find yourself. With or without hair loss treatments you'll need 4-5 thousand grafts which your donor looks capable of supporting with FUE or Fut. You'll achieve a decent hairline and coverage value with those numbers.

Thanks for taking the time to reply guys, I'm in a much better place now! however i wasn't around 6 months ago.

Remaining positive and this is why I'm looking to now do something, better now than never, in hindsight had i not hid under a hat all the years and reached out, my loss could of been far less. In regards to finestride and minoxidil, how would i go about getting this sorted
and the know the correct amount to use? as i would prefer to start this before i dive into any transplant.

I'm in the UK

Once again guys thank you.

Both have to be taken for life to retain any regrowth and prevent future loss.
Me personally, Finasteride only is what I use with great success.
The recommended dose is 1mg per day. Some people will start on 0.5 per day as a cautious approach in case they suffer side effects. If all goes well, then increase to 1mg.
Most people start on 1mg though.

You can ask your GP for a prescription. Alternatively, Dr Fox or Oxford online pharmacies are pretty cheap.

it’s cheaper if you but 5mg pills and cut them into fifths with a pill cutter. That’s what I’ve done since 2005.
Minoxidil comes in a liquid form or there’s Rogaine foam which I think is the better option, although it’s more expensive.

It’s good to hear you’re in a better place. Try to stay positive. Start looking at clinics and having some consults via email while you give the meds a chance to work. Hopefully, you respond well with no sides.

Great advice given....meds have really helped me too over the years as they stabilised my hair loss and have helped me keep my hair ever since, imo looking at your pics I'd give them a go to try and get yourself in the best position to have a transplant down the line.

Not a great fan of Minoxidil myself either and only use Finasteride myself as the Minoxidil didn't do much if anything for me tbh and was messy and greasy to use.

Good to hear your in a better place these days as hair loss can be a real bummer in regards to effecting people mental health and personal relationships.

Hi all,

Thanks for all the feedback and advice, i think i will give Finasteride a go, i will report back here in the future and keep popping back.

Also just wanted to say this is a great place, it's nice to be able to go somewhere, that you're not judged by this, so thank you :)

Did you happen to start on Finasteride? I would be interested to hear if you suffered any side effects.

Looks like you have a good doner area. try the meds first. shave your head see if you like it? if you dont get a ht, loads of good clinics out there just do your research and you should be fine. look like a good case for hattingen mega fut.

Hi guys,

Yes I've started on finastride two weeks ago, touch wood no side effects so far, however I have been looking at topical finastride/minoxidil if anyone has any experiance or advice as was thinking of switching to that and using both treatments.

Also I may just shave it off and see what its like, planning on joining a gym and getting in shape... younger brother is a body builder and bloody big, shaves his head by choice and has zero hairloss unlike me and he looks good with it, however his size detracts from that.

In regards to a hair transplant, if I do go down that road, will the data destroy the transplanted hairs?

Thanks everyone.

You have been facing hair loss for ten years and didn't take any medication and now you feel bad about it to regrow your hair, then hair transplant surgery would be the best option for you...
