Help me choose Hair Clinic

Hi all,

I am new to this forum so I apologise in advance if I ask questions already asked. I have decided to open a new thread in order to be up-to-date with the hair clinic situation.
I have been losing hair for the past 5-6 years and I recently went to a trichologist in Milan Italy where I live and he diagnosed me with Androgenetic Alopecia which is really common for men when they pass 30 years of age.

I am 34 years old and I've decided to act soon so I am interested in a hair transplant. However prices here are extremely expensive and hence I started researching for clinics in Istanbul, Turkey but I am really overwhelmed with all this various opinions and reviews I see online. I can't tell if reviews are fake or real and I can't seem to find a clinic that I can trust and it's within my budget.

So far I have contacted Cosmedica and ASMED surgical medical center for a consultation.

I'll give you my thoughts so far and then I would like your opinion and suggestions.

Cosmedica

I saw online that Mr Levent Acar is really respectable and has a good reputation.
Their website looks a bit like US telemarketing scheme with packages and their email reply was full of mistakes and honestly if I hadn't read through forums online I would think it is a scam. It is not written in good english. Also, they asked me to send photos of my hair on a whatsapp number, which I did, but I've never gotten a reply back which makes me think they are not serious. I also read online that they aren't good with communication (which I have already noticed) and that once the operation is done they don't follow you back which worries me a lot. Apparently their reputation in the last years has dropped so I am curious to hear from people who performed a hair transplant with Mr Acar lately (last year). The price of 3500 euros is within my budget as I am not willing to go over 4000 euros. A thing that also worries me is the density of the hair as I noticed from their videos on youtube that the final result isn't always what I am hoping to get. Also the crown area doesn't look very dense but I don't know if this is a general problem with every clinic.

ASMED Surgical Medical Center

Mr Koray Erdogan is also really respectable with great reputation.
Their website looks really professional and I love the form that you give details about your health and you upload photos. They got back to me after a day after analysing my pictures and they evaluated that I would need 3200 to 3500 grafts at a cost of 2.5 euro per graft which is way out of my budget. I have to be honest the videos I've seen from this clinic is closer to what I would like to get in terms of hair thickness but the double cost makes it a big no for me with my current budget. One thing that worries me is that they offer the option of implanting without shaving which costs way more but I read somewhere online that if a clinic offers this to you without a close examination before I should avoid them as it's not always the best solution.

What do you think guys? Could you give me a feedback and also suggest to me other alternatives?

Thanks for your time and looking forward to your comments.

I think you should consider Özlem Biçer, M.D. She repaired me and i am very happy. She does one patient per day.

Here is my result - Özlem Biçer, M.D. Hair Transplant
Thank you for the quick reply. I will definitely take a look.
However, it seems that your crown area is still not very dense. Excuse my ignorance but I noticed the same problem in a lot of before and after photos of various clinics so I am wondering if it's an area that it's hard to maintain the hair.
Are you still on Minoxidil or Finasteride?

Thanks for your input once again!

I had 2 previous transplants that failed, resulting in wasted donor grafts which limited the number of grafts I had for my repair. Bearing this in mind, the doc had to use most of the grafts to complete the repair concentrating on the front half of my scalp. If I had more donor, then the crown could have been sorted.

Consult the 4 Turkish clinics who post results on here, they`re all in the doctor's section further down the forum. I`ve met a few patients from Hairline Clinic whose results were very good. Don`t rush into anything. If you choose a tech team, ask about their credentials/experience.

Thanks so much for your reply Bigmac. I would like to firstly research on the person who is doing the transplant so do you happen to know who is the "Big Name" in Hairline Clinic? I will go through the forum and search for more info soon. As you said I do not want to rush into things so I will take my time and be well prepared before I choose. Thanks for your prompt reply.

I've met patients of Dr Ozgur Oztan, their results were very natural. You can see a bit more info on him in www.alliance4hair.com
It's good that you're taking your time, get it right first time.

I've decided to avoid Turkey and go with Dr. Bruno Ferreira from Portugal.
However, I am planning to take finasteride for at least 6 months before I proceed with a possible hair transplant.
Maybe it will be wise to wait for results of finasteride and see if hair loss progresses more in the following years.
I'll decide depending on the progress after 8-10 months I suppose.

Hopefully, the Finasteride works well for you.
Will you be going to his clinic in Portugal or via Dr Lorenzo`s clinic in Spain where he also works?

If I proceed with the HT I will be visiting Dr Ferreira in Portugal. I want to see the results of Finasteride and microneedling for the first 6 months and then get a second evaluation. If there is enough progress I might reconsider proceeding with a HT at a later stage.

It sounds like a good plan. Keep us informed on how you get on with the Finasteride and micro-needling. If you do go ahead with surgery in 6 months or so documenting your journey will help others who are researching.

What deciding factors made you choose Dr Ferreira?

The fact that he asked so many questions, did an analysis of my scalp etc. I explained to him I had some issues and he suggested to me to do blood exams to check everything. He is very professional and doesn't take patients just for profit! He even told me I am not a canditate for hair transplant at the moment and I should consult with him after 6 months of using finasteride whereas all other clinics I contacted they immediately got back to me with the number of grafts I would need and the cost. Also the fact that he is writing to me personally having such a heavy schedule is noteworthy whereas all other clinics have other people answer to your emails.

I think you should also consider Greece, as an alternative to Turkey. Compared with the prices of Dr Erdogan is much cheaper and I also think that as a country is safer than Turkey in all terms Coronavirus included. I have had all of my HTs in DHI and I more than happy with my choise.

Thanks for your reply. Do you happen to know any good specialists in Greece? I am originally from Greece but to be honest I haven't really researched options in Greece and I haven't found a lot of info on the net.
