Thank you so much, Angelina :)

I will continue to update. One other vitamin suggestion I can make is to take NAC (N-Acetyl-Cysteine) if your testosterone level is high, and it is causing hair loss. This happened to me. I was on Spironolactone for a high testosterone level for 4 years. Then, I discovered that the natural amino acid NAC lowers testosterone and started taking 1200 mg/day. Within a few months, my testosterone levels were normal, and I was able to go off my medication! NAC also helps obsessive/compulsive disorders like hair pulling and other issues.

I hope this information helps someone else as well :)

I would like to say a big heartfelt thank you to Angel and the other forum members for the help they provided, my hair has improved to around 85% of its original state and continues to improve on a weekly basis.

If I can drum up some courage I will add some pictures to my post.

Once again, thank you all.

I agree with Angel about the vitamins but it may be that you need to find out what your short of first.
I was taking the same vitamins as Angel but for me it made no difference, even after six months. My nails were stronger than they have ever been and my skin looked great. Even the bit of hair I had left was shiny but it was still falling out. I then had a blood test for iron levels and it came back as normal. I asked for the test paper and discovered it was slightly un-normal. I put myself on gentle iron and my hair loss stopped within days. Within weeks there was obvious new growth and now my hair is starting to look thick and lush again.
Iron shortage is one of the major vitamins that causes hair loss but you need to be so careful when taking iron. I would highly recommend a blood test but keep in mind that your diagnosis may be seen as normal by the lab. You really do need to see the results yourself (the internet gives you good guides on how to correctly read your results).

Another thing that I am sure helped is exercise because it helps all round circulation but believe me, if your short of iron you won't feel like exercising. Once my iron levels were up I was bouncing around and started to cycle everywhere (with a big daft hat on!)
I got to like my hats over time but I really don't need them anymore.

The other thing is worry. When I think about how many tears I shed over my hair loss, I could of cried you a river. I once told my husband that I would rather lose an arm or my breasts than lose my hair. Then I woke up one morning and just thought 'for goodness sake, pull yourself together woman. If it gets any worse just shave it all off'. With my new found attitude I stopped worrying (still wore a hat mind!) I started to joke about it to my family and friends and they suddenly stopped looking at my head when they were talking to me!

Be chilled and carry on your research. I'm almost certain there is a cure for most of us but its a journey we have to take on our own if we want to find a cure.

Hi Cressida,

Thank you for the excellent information about iron and a positive attitude. I posted on another board about my vitamin regimen and one woman noted that her issue, too, turned out to be a very low iron level. I agree that it's important to have your blood checked to see if there are any deficiencies. Hair loss can be caused by a number of things. Avoiding stress and worry is very important as well. I found that with myself, as I would wake up and dread to shower, I was miserable as I lost so many hairs each morning. One day I cleaned the shower drain and I pulled out a 2 foot length of hair I had lost over a few months and was in shock. However, I had to also put it into perspective that it would grow back and it eventually did, thankfully. Wherever our thoughts go is where our energy goes, so we can actually manifest hair loss if we concentrate on it and on our grief. Best to do what you recommended and carry on with hope. Wonderful to hear you are doing well. What a great story, thanks again! ;)

Thank you Angel :)
I think another thing worth mentioning is the vitamins that you and I take. I still take Biotin, Horsetail and MSM as well as a vitamin C called CamuCamu but before I got to the stage of discovering my lack of Iron, I started to question if these vitamins were making things worse. Of course they weren't but we question everything don't we!
I then wondered about reducing them or worse still, coming off them but every time I saw myself in the mirror I felt delighted at just how good (apart from thin hair) I was looking. At one point I had to ask myself, if I had the choice of beautiful skin and no hair or lots of hair but tired looking skin, which would I choose? I knew I was over my grief stage when I decided the good skin was what I would keep.

I don't know about you but I think these 3 perhaps 4 in my case vitamins are absolutely amazing and I'm surprised they aren't being marketed as natural botox!

I love your positivity Cressida! ¬b`

I totally agree with you about the Biotin, MSM, and Horsetail. Along with improving my hair, my skin looks so much better and younger. These vitamins are also known for strengthening collagen and helping skin's elasticity and coloring. Another vitamin I have started to take is Lysine, which is also good for skin. I am totally against Botox and any other non-natural procedure (I am also a vegetarian, about 99% vegan), so any natural supplements are important to me. I really feel like losing my hair was kind of a blessing in disguise, as it put me on the road to health in other ways by taking the right vitamins, being more conscious of my diet and exercise, etc. I bike (cycle) about 50-65 miles (80-105 km) a week which helps so much!

I don't think I am going to stop taking what I take daily (I take 40+ vitamins a day) as I have seen a huge improvement, not only in my appearance but energy level and mood as well :)

Oh I know what you mean about a blessing in disguise. Its a horrible, horrible thing for a woman to lose her crowning glory. The wretchedness can be confounding but like you say, the most important thing is investigating exactly what it is you need. Wigs and transplants are a last resort (for me anyway) but that journey of healing the body from the inside is SO important.
I was vegetarian for 17 years and was very healthy for it but we spend most of our lives sailing and so getting hold of fresh fruit and vegetables isn't always possible. Fish on the other hand come in abundance. We don't eat processed food and so whenever we can we collect and preserve green produce.
Like you, when I am on dry land I cycle everywhere. I have an old Dutch bike that makes me work extra hard!

You also sound like a very positive person Angel.
When I was going through my hair loss I kept reading forums. Everything seemed so depressing and I found very little to inspire me. I think the trouble is, people come here during the crisis period but when their hair starts to grow back they stop coming here. Unfortunately that gives the impression that not so many people find a cure.

Yes, you are correct about the lack of inspiration on the Web about this issue. I think that's one of the reasons I came to this board and to others, to let people know there is hope and a solution without surgery. I am so happy that others have found the vitamins to be helpful, and I am sure that people will read your post about iron and will have their levels checked as well. I think it's our responsibility, in a sense, to inform about what helped us. I really don't want any other woman to go through hair loss like I did, if possible. As you said, it is devastating and the modern medical community offers few cures. Since we directly went through this experience, it is up to us to reach out and help.

So good to hear you are into a holistic lifestyle, it really makes a difference! Thanks again for all of your advice!
;)

With every pass of the comb, it seems your hair line recedes a little farther. Your physical appearance plays a large role in your self-image and personal confidence, a self-image and confidence that are needed in order to succeed.

There are literally dozens of reasons that cause hair loss in men and women, and even more reasons for you to want to do something about it.

Everyone says that "looks are not important" and that it's what's "inside that counts", however the reality is that we are judged every day on how we look. Whether it's at a job interview, a first date, or a client meeting, your first impression is the foundation for the future.

Often as the hairline goes, so often does one's self confidence in both social and business situations. That's because a receding hair line doesn't just make someone look bald, but prematurely old as well, which is something most people fear.

Hair loss is not always inevitable, and the amount and rate of loss can often be diminished with the correct treatment.
