Is it ok to smoke medical Marijuana before and after my hair transplant

Hi all, planning on having a small fue 500 grafts to fix a bald spot that I acquired after a biking accident 5 years ago. When I recovered from trauma I was left with a sizeable scar and the surrounding skin left bare. I`ve always covered it with concealers but I`m at the stage of wanting it sorted so I don`t have to think about it. Since the accident, I suffer from Rheumatoid Arthritis which I think is a direct result of the injuries I sustained. I find it difficult to function without using Marijuana on a daily basis.

I was wondering if it is ok to continue smoking before and after a procedure. I wouldn`t want to compromise it but without the Marijuana, I don`t think I`d be able to function.

Anyone with some insight would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry to hear about your accident and associated problems.
Smoking Marijuana can cause blood thinning. The reason clinics ask patients not to smoke or take anything that may cause blood thinning is that during surgery your grafts may pop. What this means is when the graft is placed into the scalp, the incision begins to bleed, the resulting blood flow pushes the graft out. Once you leave surgery you don`t want to increase the risk of bleeding and graft displacement. You`re also having the grafts placed into scar tissue which is a little trickier than virgin scalp.

You could contact the clinic prior and ask them if there is an alternative medicine you can use for your arthritis. I suspect this may be an issue during surgery as well trying to make you comfortable and pain free. Clinics will provide Valium before and during surgery, plus pain meds.
