My SMP Journey at Shapiro Medical Group

Hi All,
I wanted to share my SMP journey at Shapiro Medical Group (SMG). I have been to SMG three times this year for a progression of temporary SMP.
I have been researching SMP since its inception. I decided on temporary SMP as I am not sure that the stability of permanent inks is where it should be yet (color shifting, etc)

Nicole did an amazing job! She explained everything in detail as we went through each session. I can't express enough how this has changed my life.
My wife says that she has never seen me this excited about my hair. As can be seen in the first two photos, my donor area was a mess.I had FUT done in the late 1990s. Needless to say, Suture closures were not what they are today.

I know that SMP can be a controversial topic. I was one of the lucky ones. The ink took very well in my donor area.
Would I ever consider permanent SMP? Sure, when I believe that it has matured to a place where the concerns that people have about ink stability are no longer precent. I am very thankful that SMP worked for me. I am especially thankful that Nicole at SMG was able to help.

Hey Haircut its great hearing success stories like yours, I was considering SMP last year but decided to wait a while longer before deciding if it is the way I want to move forward.


Your SMP has made a good improvement, how long did they say it would last?

How long it last varies by person. In general terms, I have heard 8 months to 2 years.

Much like SMP results, it varies by person.

The key to getting longevity with the temporary pigment is proper aftercare. Sun exposure and swimming in chlorinated water are main culprits in accelerated fading. Also, immediate post-treatment, it's a good idea to use an acidic shampoo (3.5 PH). The skin is an acidic environment, and returning it to this state after treatment helps heal and seal the pigment.

Your donor is very sparse, in cases like these we often work on a larger area of the donor to give it the impression of being fuller and allowing us to place more density in the scar area.
