My SMP keeps fading away

I have had 7 sessions of SMP and it keeps fading away. They (Vinci) told me I'm the only person that is having this issue due to dry scalp and many prior hair transplants. What should I do? Start using some kind of moisturizer on my scalp for a while and try it again? Any suggestions?

I've actually met a patient who experienced this. He had 4 treatments, each one lasted 4 or 5 weeks then gone. He was told the resins were his high metabolism, dry flaky skin, washing his hair twice a day due to the dry skin. He said he was glad he tried it even though it never worked out for him.
He used a clinic in Europe I believe, can't remember the name now.

Thanks for that information. I may very well have the same condition. I was considering trying coconut oil to moisturize my scalp for a month or so and see if that makes a difference.

Does your skin get quite irritated after your sessions? How long do you stay red? Do you experience a lot of itching? Or, do you have any skin conditions like eczema? Have you ever wore a hairpiece? What type of shampoo are you using?

If you have had multiple transplants you might have quite a bit of scar tissue on top. This makes things very unpredictable and can definitely effect retention. Generally, I do tell my multi-surgery patients that the process will be slower for them. But, I wouldn't expect 100% fading every 5 months.

Might want to check in with a transplant doc and make sure all is ok. Can't hurt and they might have some great ideas to help retention.

Hello Nichole and thanks for your response. I have to say I have NO irritation, no redness, or itching after my SMP sessions. That's why I'm surprised that the SMP fades away 100% in just a few weeks. I did wear a hair piece for about a year back in 2004. I've had a total of 8 hair transplants. I have been using head & shoulders shampoo to help with the dry scalp. I don't use Rogaine. One of the techs at Vinci suggested I use coconut oil on my scalp. I'm thinking about giving it one more try.

I wish you the best of luck and please keep us updated as to how this works! It can be a frustrating process when things don't go as planned. You're in good hands.

Also, another idea is to try using a derma roller to increase circulation in the area. Can't hurt!

Not really related to this gentleman but would the use of a derma roller in general after a successful SMP treatment have any detrimental effect on the treatment?

Great Question!

No, in a normal circumstance you would NOT want to use a derma roller after a treatment. I sometimes have patients use them before (particularly on scars) to prep for the smp. The derma roller helps with cell turnover and increasing circulation amongst other things. In trico, that would equal increased fading if used post-op. In permanent, that could cause cell rearrangement and possibly cause migration if used post-op.

Id only recommend it in this circumstance because he has had no retention. Also, combining it with the coconut oil can increase the absorption up to 40%. Which, could help him maximize the benefits.

Good day. Was there any improvements from the mosturizer and was there any improvements on the hair pigmentation

I imagine it did as this post was from a while back dude....coconut oil is an excellent moisturizer to use.... if you read around the various forums the consensus seems to be that it helps a lot with the flaky scalp that can sometimes happen between sessions.....so I imagine if he had a very dry scalp this will have helped him too......On a side note I had a dry flaky scalp years back which I believe was down to years of hat wearing before my HT's and found the coconut oil worked wonders.....obviously I havent had the SMP other than on a scar but it did help with the dry scalp back then. ( left my hair looking greasy though)

Sweating straight after a treatment Is advised against in the after care i remember this from my scar work......so maybe this is an issue for you dude. What has the clinic said?.......some people do need more sessions than usual even though it's rare so you might just be one of these people.....using moisturizers is usually recommended between sessions to make sure the scalp is in it's best possible condition and not too dry and flaky. Some practitioners even use vaseline during a session if the skin is too dry and not taking the ink properly.
