As is obvious by my number of posts, I've been a veteran of this forum but just took a little hiatus and now am back to do a little research. My short version of HT history is that I had work done 26 years ago by Dr. Cole in Toronto. Some have argued with me that he was never in Toronto but it was called Cole Center For Hair Transplantation. Possibly he worked there illegally or it was another Dr. Cole but anyways that's who did it. For the most part I lucked out for the work being done at the time. It was not horrific but not of todays standards. Thank God he had some artistic flair and the hairline was with consideration of future loss. Nonetheless it was something that needed to get repaired as I aged and my natural hairline was leaving me. So after months of research I decided my best option was Dr. Ron Shapiro in Minneapolis. To me I was going to what I believed was the best of the best even if it meant travel. I wanted a superior result.
So off I went to SMG and they were awesome. I got the care I needed and then some. They really are a top notch facility with the patients best interest at heart. I could not have been happier with the result. I personally elected to keep the old work and have it camouflaged for simplicity. There is no question that it wasn't the ultimate best way to proceed but Dr. Ron's artistry was able to make it work perfectly. Keep in mind too that the old work was positioned ok. The only issue is that the previous surgeon had gone a little too low with the scar so unfortunately I had to have a 2nd scar. It bummed me out but when you make some quick, uneducated decisions with youth, you have to deal with the consequences and having a fairly thick donor area it wasn't going to be too bad.
Sorry for my long winded explanation but it relates to my question...I'm getting ready for another and hopefully last procedure. I would like to thicken up the region of my part and lateral horns and maybe make the crown region a little smaller if the grafts are not eaten up too much. I want the frontal 2/3's perfect first. The goal is that I can have some more options of hairstyles and go shorter on the sides and back and currently I know that the right side of my head is slightly thinner because I always part my hair this way. I really want to go with FUE. I know that I already have the scars so why not just do FUT and save some money but (and possibly I would change my mind if there is some compelling reasoning provided to me) I just don't want to worry about stretching of the scar and deal with the tight sensation and headaches that can happen. Moreover, getting back to work in a reasonable amount of time is also important as I am a physician and can't be away forever.
In a perfect world I would like to go with Temporary SMP to cover my scars as I have read some not so great things about permanent. I would like this procedure 1st and wait the appropriate amount of time and then get the FUE. I have no desire to keep a shaved look in the future but would like the very short option. But truthfully I have never seen what I would consider awesome scar concealment (even on HTN--yes I am a member Falc ha ha--some of you will understand the reference)--but maybe I will not need awesome if I don't want the shaved look? Also, they say that it is 1-2 years and then needing a touch up. Is that legit or is it actually a lot less and they don't want to admit that or people won't do it? Especially if I have to travel to do it, I don't want to have to travel every 6 months to keep it up. Although I guess worst scenario is that I keep hair longer to cover scars. Advice??
