I recently had a hair transplant with Dr. True. I started to take Propecia 2 months ago. My concern is that I find that my hair shedding has increased dramatically and would like to know if this is common. I am 43.

This is common dude, keep an eye on things but a lot of propecia users have shedding when they first start using it, things should improve soon pal.

Welcome to the forum, you chose a great surgeon by the way........would love to hear about your procedure..

Take care

I shed loads of hair between months 1 and 3 when I first started on Fin. Things soon got better and by 6mths my hair was thicker and some minor regrowth. It has improved the thickness of my hairs. This is quite common with people whose hairs are minitaurising.

I know it's only been a few weeks but are you still shedding? Coopman is right by the way.

I would say try propecia for at least 6 months and then see what kind of results you get. You really gotta be patient with this man. I didn't believe it either but now i'm on my 8th month of taking it and i can definitely see the change in growth

I've been on propecia since I was 19 (I'm 24). Had aggressive diffuse loss beginning at 17, norwood 1-2 at 18. I'd be a Norwood 5 or more probably now without it, instead I'm probably a 2. It is great for the crown for an mid scalp (little if any loss) however my hairline is still slowwwlyyyy creeping back.

Personally i didnt note any extra shedding but in general that is a good sign. The key is to give it up to a year and manage your expectations. And be mindful of side effects. I have modest sides sometimes but the benefit is still greater for me, but some people really don't tolerate the drug.

Propecia unfortunatly induced for me an initial shed in the front which never recovered. I went from not having to having to use concealer in a matter of weeks.

I eventually quit after 3 years due to the sides.

Hey bob, did you experience any lingering sides that persisted past a few months after stopping the medication?

Ziggs, Took me the guts of a year but im back to 100% now a while.

Strangely enough fin lowered my free test levels whilst on it. It takes time for your levels to rebound.

It was not worth it for me. I had isolated loss in a frontal third which fin did nothing for. MAke sure to get your blood work done if you do start so you have baseline data to refer back too.

Also i didnt really have severe sides until they kicked in after bout 3 years.
