I am now on day 6 of my recovery (as of Sept 10th) and wanted to share my story on here with everyone after reading so many of your posts.
About the procedure:
I went with an FUE transplant of 5300 grafts. I was given the breakdown of 2s and 3s but I can't remember, I do remember that they were quiet high compared to 1s. The purpose of the transplant was not to reconstruct my hair line or lower it, I wanted to have my hair thickened and filled in.
The process took a long time, it was done in one session about 10 hours. For the most part it was painless and I even joked that the weirdest or worst part of the procedure, about half way through it, was the sound of the doctor making the cuts for where the hair would be placed. It's a sound I will never forget I'm sure. But the last hour of the procedure was actually pretty painful, I think I was just too sensitive, exhausted and sore that the medicine wasn't working as effectively as in the beginning. I'm not blaming the doctor for this though, he worked with me to try to lower the pain, if at any point one area was becoming sore he'd move and let it calm down. Overall I think he did what he could and I have no complaints about it. (I might just have a higher tolerance to the local anesthetic and it wore off quicker or something)
After the procedure I was given all sorts of stuff, lotions, oils, shampoo and pills. Seemed pretty standard.
After the procedure:
First day I had no pain, in fact I didn't feel anything painful for a few days (wasn't till day 5 that the donor area is kind of irritated and hurts minimally at times)
The donor area looks good though, as the red dots are starting to fade I'm not noticing any spots that I think will be hard to cover. Surprisingly I have amazingly thick side hair considering I needed to thicken the top.
The top front area is still pretty red on day 6, but it's clearing out slowly and I'm happy with the results so far (obviously at this point I can't imagine the final results though)
The worst post op thing has been sleeping, I could never sleep on my back before and now doing it while using a travel pillow is just not working for me. But if that's my biggest complaint right now I'm ok.
I do want to add when you look at the pictures that my hair is about 70% grey so a lot of the new hair is very light colored and sometimes hard to see in photos. In the mirror it's looking a little darker than I can capture with my phone.
I also know my crown needs work, I've already talked to the doctor about this and he feels that micro pigmentation will be great for that area since I still have hair it's just thin. But I would like input on this, it's hard to find images of pigmentation with grey hair so I'm still skeptical of the results.
