Could anyone tell me if there are any studies showing what percentage of patients have new growth from Platelet Rich Plasma ?
Considering giving it a go but the price and not so many results available are off-putting.

PRP seems to work for some and not others. Only way to know for sure is to try it yourself. Just like Propecia and Minoxidil, not everyone will respond to it.

the thing about prp is that each clnic has a different protocol on how its prepared,so how would someone know which clinic has the best version, to give the best result.im on hold for my HT,im serious thinking about trying a prp treatment.but I have no clue which clinic has the most success with it.i see meds, rogaine foam.as aids to help one fight hairloss, they wont give you a full head of hair but they help maintain the hair you have and give some regrowth.the question is will prp be added to that list.

Yes, I have read numerous claims by hair transplant physicians and PRP only providers who claim that their version is the best. This makes the whole process even more confusing. I`m thinking along the lines of the ones who say patients who take Finasteride are seeing more positive results but I don`t really know. It`s not cheap, especially when you are required to have 3 sessions over several months, followed by top-up sessions. Would it make more sense to put this cash towards a hair restoration surgery! Or should I try PRP with no guarantees? Any opinions from someone trying PRP?

The way it was explained to me was pretty simple. PRP, when performed correctly, has the same effect as finasteride. It doesn't create new hair growth, it simply thickens existing hairs that have miniaturized to varying degrees. It isn't a permanent solution but different clinics will have different ideas as to how often patients need top ups. Some will say up to two years, others will say three times in the first year and then wait for a few years before another round.

It can be maddening, really, but in the end it comes down to documented evidence of efficacy. If someone says it works, have them show you the evidence, and not just one or two examples, either. If you can speak to someone that's had it, that's the best route but in the end it really comes down to who seems to be the most credible, on top of the evidence presented. I've had it myself and I know I had a small but positive effect and I've seen some impressive turnarounds via photographic documentation.

thanks for the response joe, would it be worth a trip from nj to see dr.cooley for a prp treatment ? I have a lot of miniature hair in front third,so if these hairs can be thicken ,it would be great.that growth of min.hair came from using propecia and rogaine foam.what effect would prp treatment have on your regular hair ?

Hi SBT,

PRP isn't going to do anything for hair that isn't miniaturizing simply because there isn't really anything for it to do.

I want to caution that I'm still not 100% behind it simply because I don't know enough about it and I don't have enough experience with it. I just know what I've experienced and what I've seen, which I have no problem admitting, is limited.

I think a better way to answer your question is that I think it's worth the trip to learn more. You can speak with the doc about it, look through his gallery (hopefully it will be online sometime) and make your own decision from the evidence he has on hand.

I`ve recently met someone who is undergoing PRP treatment, he definitely has new growth.
