Possible chest pain from Finasteride

Hi everyone, hoping someone can help shed some light on the chest pains I'm experiencing. I started Proscar 10 years ago, after 5 years I switched to Finasteride to save money. I`ve had no problems until 3-4 months ago when I first felt pain in my chest. The pain is mainly on my right side just off the centre of my sternum. It's random, sometimes reaching to pick something up, simply twisting my body to look out the window whilst driving or sleeping on my side and then trying to shift positions will cause pain and discomfort.

At first, I thought I may have pulled a muscle but I`ve done nothing strenuous which ruled this out. This got me thinking, maybe it`s my heart. Off to the doctors for a check up, blood pressure, Cholesterol and ECG all ok. The doctor advised to rest but I`m not doing anything strenuous. I never thought to mention I was on Finasteride.

I`ve been reading about Gyno problems being a side effect, although the symptom seems to be pain and tenderness around the nipples, something I`m not experiencing. Has anyone on here had pain in the chest like me? I`m now contemplating coming off the Finasteride for several weeks to see what happens. Do you think this is a wise choice?

Any personal advice would be greatly appreciated.

Finasteride has been reported to cause chest pain in certain individuals. I'm not sure what the best course of action would be, but if it were myself, I'd cease using it for a few weeks to see if the pain go away or decrease the dosage.
I'd recommend seeing another doctor for a second opinion and mention that you take Finasteride.
Hopefully you've just pulled your chest muscles without realizing it.
Keep us informed how you get on.

Good luck.

It very well might be an ulcer. I've had that same pain for the last year, and when they did an endoscopy, i had some erosions in my stomach. I'm not on finasteride, but its definitely painful.

Chest pain has numerous causes.
Get a second opinion from another doctor.

Thank you guys for suggesting the possible causes. I've booked another appointment for the beginning of June. I've temporarily stopped using the Finasteride to see if my symptoms improve.
I'll be back once I know what's what.

I have Costochondritis which the doctor has prescribed anti inflammatory`s and pain killers.
It can be quite serious but not as bad as what I was thinking.

Thank you guys. It is a relief knowing it`s a treatable condition that's not life-threatening. My doctor did rule out Finasteride as the cause.
