Possible to get a FUE operation?

Hey all!
I'm a guy in my 30's that would like to get a HT.

When i was in my 20's i had a hormone disorder which not only made me depressed but also made me lose some hair and develope gynecomastia.

The latter was fixed through surgery.
I didn't lose much hair to be honest, i'm probably on a norwood 1,5 scale.

So my question is: Am i a possible candidate for a HT, or would a surgeon refuse me?
I guess it would be a very small procedure, however it would mean a lot for me.

Since respectable clinics in my country are non-existent, i think that the Belgian clinics would be a good choice.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Have you tried non-surgical solutions such as Minoxidil and Finesteride. However if your hairloss is the hairline area these meds usually dont grow hair there but can help to keep/maintain the rest of your hair. If you get a hair transplant native hair can be lost at any time in the future and there is no telling which patients will experience this. Quite often patients will require a second procedure performed to maximize density on the recipient areas.

What i would do is consult with a few clinics who will advise you on the meds and check your hair for miniturization etc, they will determin if you are a suitable candidate for a HT. Me personally, i would go for it if my hairloss was bothering me.

Remember though as i stated above that you may lose more hair in the future and need more procedures, fighting hairloss can be a lifetime battle.

Have you any pictures you can post so we can see and give our opinions.

But i have to ask what you meant by doing several procedures?

I assume you meant that the patient might lose more hair behind the newly transplanted area by age.
Or maybe the operation is to unpredictable to be sure of a success?

Hey dude, welcome to the forum......The main reason people go on meds is to stabalize their loss. If you have a HT without being on meds in some people there is a greater risk of loosing more of your native hair around the HT. This isn't always the case though, some older people who have an established loss pattern could be fine...but the risk is much higher for younger men. A good HT surgeon will be able to check for signs of miniturisation and have an idea of likely future loss and should plan surgery around this.

All types of surgery will carry a risk of not being a success but by doing research and choosing a good doctor you will have a far better chance of it being a success.

You may get a HT to strengthen your hairline, then in 2 years time you may lose more native hair and need a follow up procedure to fill in the density, however a good doctor will plant your hairs in such a way that if you do lose more hair your transplanted hair which is left will still give a natural look.

I'm not currently on a medication, though i probably should start using regaine or a similar product.

I can't tell if i will lose more hair by time.
Could a good doctor estimate how much hair i will lose by age, or is it to individual?

I notice you said you are a 1 on the Norwood scale. Sometimes when you transplant into an area that has minimal loss you can cause shock loss. Shock loss refers to the temporary loss of existing hair in the transplanted area. Most doctors have their own techniques to check for miniaturization to see if you are a good candidate for hair tranplants. Good luck,I wish you the best.
