Is there such a thing as Alcohol free Minoxidil that could be used in conjunction with smp? Whilst browsing on another forum I also read a post that said certain religions can't use alcohol either and the use of Minoxidil was forbidden because of this.

Surely there must be some company that makes it.

I believe, a compound pharmacies could customize a prescription.

Look for Beta-Sitosterol in a blend that has no drying ethyl alcohol in it. Read ingredients before ordering.
I will read up on Beta-Sitosterol as I haven't heard of it before.

Is there proof that minoxidil should not be used after SMP?Will it definitely cause fading?

No, there is no proof. The anti-alcohol message is just the general consensus between various clinics, but it's not backed by any research.

I believe that Rogaine Foam has a much lower alcohol content than the lotion variant. Can anyone confirm?

Thanks Damien. I use 15% minoxidil twice daily. Thinking maybe this would maybe be too strong to keep using post SMP treatment.

Interesting debate . I used 15% minoxidil years back did seem to work but the supplier got shut down by the FDA.
I use Regaine foam now , not entirely sure it does anything but it does thicken your hair when applied .
I am having temp smp tommorrow and would most likely want to keep on with the Regaine foam if I can

My concern with rogaine is not always just the alcohol it's the acids that they also use to help with the absorption of the medicine. It can be very irritating to the scalp. We know that any irritations to the skin that might include dryness, inflammation, redness, and or swelling can speed up a fading process if used during healing. It technically takes about 90 days for the basement membrane to close (thin layer between the epidermis and dermis) and until that happens pigment can still escape out of the dermis and be exfoliated through the epidermis.

Another thing is that going on and off rogaine during the smp treatment process is not good for you. It can cause a little shock loss. The hair will return but it's not pleasant and it's not a service to yourself.

I would hold off until you are 90 days post op. After that any small amount of fading that it might cause does not outweigh the benefits of the med.

Hope that makes sense and helps.
