Why what you see several day/weeks after HT is not what you will get in 12 months ?

I don't understand why everyone tell you have to wait 12 month to get the result of your HT. I explain ...

Several day after HT when the hair are growing from grafts they are all robust because they just come from the donor area no ? So how can it could be possible that they will be thicker 12 month later ?

I well understand that between 3 months and 12 months they will be thicker because hair are new at 3 month when they just come .. but just after HT they don't... no ? And no more hair will grow with respect to the day from HT no ?

So if all work great you should get what you see right after HT...

Is your question - if all the grafts survive and I shave my head back to the same length as done during the procedure, won’t my hair look the same as it did then?

In my mind it’s almost a moot point - all the hair won’t survive and you’re unlikely to have a transplant and then shave your head back to practically nothing.

The outcome is dependent on the graft survival rate and the illusion of a head of hair is gained by placement and direction of grafts. You can’t see much of that until the hair grows. It’ll only grow and mature over a 12 month period.

Hello @arthurSam, when the grafts are placed back into the scalp. The critical aspect of the graft is the hair follicle. The hair shaft will likely fall out within the first few weeks post-op. Occasionally the hair shaft dries out and this can make it appear coarser and or thicker. Days after your procedure, when any scabbing has been released. Your skin complexion is likely to be darker. Due to the wounds created for the graft placement. Naturally over the weeks, your skin complexion returns to normal. This can create an illusion of greater thickness. Especially with darker hair as the contrast between skin complexion is lower. Creating the look of greater thickness.

In general. The hair units lay in a dormant cycle for the first few months. As they begin to enter the growth cycle. Often the hairs can be finer than originally placed. Over time the hairs grow and mature until they reach their natural state. To match those in the donor.

Hello @arthurSam, well it´s semantics really. Assuming the vast majority of hair grows. You have pretty much the same hair count. In that respect, it´s even. But, for some, it may look thick and for others, it may not the first weeks post-op. When fully mature though. The plan is obviously to look thick regardless. Varying hair characteristics will largely determine that. Along with the hair placement and distribution. Also the distribution of differently sized hair units.

A good hair transplant is created partly on the basis of illusion. Regardless if days after or fully grown out. It is very unlikely the density placed matches the original hair density. But the newly distributed hair has to mimic the look and blend naturally with the surrounding existing hair.
