yup, just stalled hairs that won't do any harm as eventually they`ll be pushed out but I think it`s better to remove them so there`s no blockage.

Hi all

I'm now at 8 weeks (time has gone quite fast).
Think I'm pretty much back to pre op position now, post shedding. Like most, I'm not enjoying this stage but trying to keep positive. Going out without the hat now - don't think most people care and I've accepted what it looks like.

Started to dye my hair which has made me feel a bit more confident.

Thinking about having a trim at some point soon to tidy up the back and sides- decided I will let the top grow out a bit more to revert to my usual 'look'.

Hope everyone in the UK enjoys the long weekend!

Missed this update. Everything does look like your pre op. The donor area looks good.
Did you get the hair cut?

Thanks Bigmac

Yes had a little trim on the back and sides the other week- it wasn't a professional job so looks a bit rough around the edges! I didn't touch the top at all.

This is week 10 now since the HT - hair is a bit flat as had a cap on from a walk to protect the scalp from the sun.

Think the donor looks fine and the top is still per pre op - I might have had a bit of shock loss on top as I don't remember being able to see my scar on top of my head (from a childhood accident not the HT) before, but might just be me not remembering! Either way, I am happy so far and looking forward to hopefully moving away from ugly duckling stage!

Think there is an odd hair here or there starting to poke through but know I am still early days and trying not to obsess over it.

Hi all

Now at 12 weeks / 3 months post HT.

Think everything is still fine and on track - like others, I have been finding this stage a bit tougher - it didn't bother me too much with lockdown limiting going out and about - limited to close friends and family but now I've started to go back to office a bit and see more people I think I am getting a little more self conscious again.

Also, like others have said, it feels a long time since the HT but still waiting for the hairs to start growing. Been useful to have so many examples on here to help reassure me that it's normal and hopefully should start to see some improvements starting over the next few months.

Long way still to go!

Hang in there buddy, it will be worth the wait trust me.
Thanks! Like I said been really great to follow stories like yours which helps keeps me optimistic. That and knowing I've actually done something about it, so fingers crossed should start to get better over the next 9 or so months!

Late reply by me. The DIY haircut looked decent. Having your hair the same length does help.
At 3 months your donor looks good. Can you feel any stubbles popping through anywhere? Don`t worry if not as it`s still very early.
The hard part is over now. You could try a bit of DermMatch or Nanogen to fill in the thin areas until you`ve enough growth to cover it naturally. They work really well. I used them with great success, they gave me confidence and security when out and about.

Thanks BM

I think I can feel a few on my crown but not sure if it's just the existing hair rather than new ones coming through. I struggle to get a good look with mirrors and pics, trying to take them myself but I've attached two; one is looking into my hairline on my left (less dense) side and the other is of the crown - both with the "close up" lense on the camera - tho it's tricky to keep it focus while pressing the button!

You can see some coming through better on the hairline. If I zoom in on the crown I think I can see a few there just starting to come through. It also looks like there is a bit of redness on some of the follicles?

I've had a go with the fibres but find it hard to get a good colour match which makes me self conscious it's noticeable.

It does look like some new hairs popping through. Keep an eye on them to see if they continue to grow.
What would you say is your natural hair colour? As well as the usual hair fibres you can pop into the women’s section in Boots etc to see root touch up make-up that comes in various colours and shades. It’s cheap and you could experiment with it.

It used to be a lighter brown but have some greys slowing taking over! I dye it a bit darker brown.

I was reading up more about dermatch and how you can mix / combine colours to improve the match. I'll order a few shades and have a play about. Good shout on the root touch up things I'll have a look next weekend

Hi all - 16 week / 4 month update for me.

Found this month quite tough if I am honest, a lot of time has passed since the HT but I'm not seeing much growth. I know it's still early but think I have definitely had some shock loss of my existing hair in the transplant area, now the rest is about as long as I used to have it pre HT and I feel I had a bit more coverage then.

In less harsh light and face on sometimes I think I have made more progress but then looking back with the bathroom light it brings me back down to earth!

Just need to push through this.stage. I might get a proper hair cut as not touched the top since the HT and think it might look a bit better a bit shorter maybe.

I have seen some growth at the front, I have kept some of the transplanted hairs there and a few others have started to pop up so hopefully in another month or so I should see the benefit of those guys!

Hang in there buddy it’s still very early for you. I saw most of my growth around the month 8-9 mark.

Month 4 is still early for you. You have plenty of time for the growth to happen. The resting phase that your hair goes into after a hair transplant can last on average 2 - 4 months, sometimes longer. It’s hard when you see other patients with a lot more growth than you but we all grow at different rates, some fast, some slow. Try not to worry and be patient, the next few months will hopefully see a good burst of growth for you.
Get your hair cut to the length it was pre op. It looks better and it’ll be easier to compare when you update.
Stay positive.

Thanks both - yep I'm going to cut it shorter and try and forget about it for a while.

6 - 7 months is a good indicator for growth. People are anxious about their growth but it does take a full 12 months and sometimes beyond to see the final results. Everyone heals and grows differently. Keep in touch with the clinic who I`m sure will be very supportive.
Once you get your hair cut, stick a few more pictures up.

Totally agree - 4month period is really tough as a considerable amount of time has passed since the procedure but growth has only really just started. Found it quite tough myself but just kept clipping my whole head down to 7-9mm, which really helped. Then from around 5 1/2 months (6 1/2 now) I started to let it grow out for the first time in many years.

Hi All

Getting close to 5 months and just had my first proper haircut. Good to have tamed the mop!

I feel like I can see some improvement now, and it looks better being trimmed down to even things out. Can definitely see new growth in my hairline and think I can feel more in my crown region, hard to remember but when I touch it I am sure it feels like there is more hair there now.

Pics as always are directly under the harsh bathroom light for consistency.

While it's still thin on my left side, which was the weakest area before, in softer light the shape of the temple area is more visible - hopefully it will keep coming through and thickening up in the coming months. Donor area all seems ok as well.

As my native hair is quite thick I think it's the contrast between the thinner areas that makes me notice it more so having it shorter helps and would recommend it. Will try with some product as well as this is post cut with nothing in it.

Small steps but feeling more positive again now!
