The Maitland Clinic Dr Ball 2000 grafts Feb 23

Quite a quick decision for me really, hadn’t been happy with the way my hair loss had gone over the last few years, so did my research over a six month period and decided to go for it.

Initial consultation on zoom with patient advisor David Anderson, followed by a visit to Portsmouth to have a face to face meeting with David and Dr Ball.

The big news for me is that they are not selling you anything, they are discussing your situation and informing you of options and their approach is one of giving you information and letting you decide what to do.

I had really made my decision to have the procedure done before the visit, but the consultation just proved I made the correct decision and choice of clinic.

The procedure was booked in and I was very impressed with the communication with regards to steps I needed to look at prior to the event, which included shampoo, eating well the night before, no caffeine in the morning of procedure etc etc

The day started early at 8.15am, and ended at 8.00pm, but the whole day went extremely quickly. Its hard to describe how nice a day it actually is. You just feel that you are surrounded by brilliant people who just want the best for you and so it is rather like being pampered than having a hair transplant.

Throughout the day there are several breaks where you are encouraged to snack, where all sorts of treats are offered and they take your lunch order and basically just look after you incredibly well.

What impressed me the most is the focus on the job by each and every one of them. You can hear them completely focussed on what they are doing, discussed the grafts, numbers etc and their intensity of work is amazing.

At the end Dr Ball goes through the aftercare programme, but you also get a paper copy and an email so if you did miss anything, you have it at hand. You get an aftercare pack that is extremely thorough that includes everything from Vaseline to a pillow and conditioner etc etc

I was given painkillers just before I left the clinic and needed to take them at midnight then at four hour intervals after that for three days. I took the midnight ones and didn’t bother with the rest as there just wasn’t any pain.

I just didn’t have any issues, no pain, no swelling, no itching and ten days later I go to a business conference and nobody is any the wiser that I have had anything done.

I was waiting for pain or slight issues, but the only issue I had was worrying about touching my head as it was hard to remember that you’d actually had anything done. Oh, I had a bit of a tight forehead for a few days, but it’s so minor it’s hardly worth a mention.

Then you receive emails to ensure you are okay and you are given a mobile number of one of the nurses should you be worried about anything, so they make sure you are okay well after you leave the clinic.

I cannot put into words how happy I am with the result after ten days, but I am equally pleased and taken back by how I was treated by the whole team. I have one regret and that is that as I was nervous and was fairly quiet on the day and so didn’t really thank them properly for the way each and every one of them treated me during the day.

Looking at the results now I am incredibly pleased. Dr Ball covered more area than he initially thought was possible and I am shocked at the extent of the coverage based on the task he had in hand.

I’ll post pictures tomorrow to show the before and current state of play and then hopefully post some more as progress is made.

Anyone thinking of having the procedure, I thoroughly recommend Dr Ball and his incredible team, both for their care during the day, but the comfort afterwards and what so far is an incredible result.

Thanks for sharing your story Rob. Everything sounds like you had a great experience from the initial contact to the actual surgery. The work looks super refined and clean.
I like the hairline design. Those 2000 grafts have been used wisely and should produce a nice new look for you once grown in.
Your donor area looks quite strong. Did Dr Ball say how many grafts you have in total? It would be good to know your graft count so we know how many hairs you got.
I’ll look forward to following your progress.
All the best.
Bm.

I have the numbers written down somewhere, but I do have enough to soften the crown if I wanted to go again.

Dr Ball though is unsure if it will be needed as he said he managed to cover more area than he initially thought based on my type of hair.

I’m using a topical solution too, to stop further decline, but he said my sides are strong and so any potential future loss may come from below my crown.

The big news for me is that at this clinic the journey is discussed, it’s not just about having a transplant and off you go.

Thanks, it would be great to see the numbers. Is the topical solution Finasteride? The design and coverage does look very good. With your strong donor I think you may decide to get the crown done once this one has grown in.

The hairs are shedding now ( 2 weeks ) and will regrow in 3-4 months, with the full result being achieved around 12 months.

Check out Sussex hair diary on you tube for a comprehensive update on one’s man’s journey, which is good for showing all the growth stages

Your sides have kept high so although you are high Norwood you have as much donor as most. The 2000 graft should have a big difference on your image for you

I will post more photos, but just wanted to say something to those considering the process.

So I used to look at photos of people going through the process and think that because the results aren’t instant, is it worth going through the hassle?

I would see photos of people at week 1, 6, 10 etc and I thought I didn’t really want to go through with that.

However the big thing in all of this is once you have been through the procedure, your mindset is completely different. You look forward to the results with confidence rather than constantly have a niggly feeling of an issue in your mind. So I am now on week 8 and rather than look at the picture as it is, you look forward with positivity.

It’s hard to explain but the mindset changes as soon as you have had it done and you really feel positive throughout.

I just wanted to say this for people who are thinking of going through with it but think the early months will be a hassle. They aren’t, they are really positive and you know there will be an end result so it’s a really positive feeling.

So just coming up to 5 months, and that’s the results so far. This is just a random photo as I was in the bathroom, so it’s exactly how it is.
Still plenty to go, but if nothing else happens I would be well happy.

It really is worth checking my first photo so you can see what an incredible job that has been done.

Dr Ball and the hair geniuses at The Maitland Clinic. Can’t recommend them highly enough.

Yeah, month six like the best month by far. I’ll post another picture, but this month is the game changer for me.
