Bosley Troy, MI Dr. Shannon - poor outcome

Hello every one! I am glad to have become a part of this forum. I have become very educated about the hair loss industry after receiving a hair transplant last year that I believe really destroyed my hair. I decided to go with Bosley in Troy Michigan, because the surgeon, Dr. Nancy Shannon came across as very well versed in the field. I had a very thick, full head of hair, however, I was thinning in the left hair line region. After receiving a transplant of about 900 grafts in that area, things started to go quickly downhill, month after month. First off, most of my thick healthy hair in the area of transplantation started falling out. The horrible thing is that it never returned. I now have the majority of my head looking natural, while the recipient area looks really bad. I have thick, transplanted hairs, spaced too far apart, some of which I believe are in inappropriate areas, as well as at wrong angles. I now I signed the usual documents before this procedure, but I was never warned such a horrendous outcome was possible! I know now that I was not a good candidate for this procedure, because my hair loss was so minimal before. Now I am really self conscience about it and have to comb it over and down to cover it up. Any advice? I know that even at this point, my options are limited. I am so upset and frustrated.

The good news and you can look at it this way is that you have $100 to invest and you have only lost $10 you still have $90 left so just be careful with the rest.

Do you know what a hair transplant can achieve? For instance what percentage of original density can be achieved even if donor was unlimited and in your case it does sound like you might have plenty of donor left. I have never asked this question myself so anyone in the industry that would like to answer please as that is something that would really benefit patients including myself.

If donor were unlimited what is the best density that can be achieved percentage wise when compared to the original 100% that was there?

I am going to guess maybe 60% or so.

Deboco if your original density was 60% or more then what was being attempted was impossible. I`m not saying that was the case but it is possible and if so information might have been omitted.

You should post pictures as without pictures it becomes very hard for anyone in the industry to give you proper advice with an in person meeting being one step better.

Also remember it can be fixed most especially those thick hairs going in the wrong direction. What you probably needed were thinner hairs towards the very edges of the donor area for yout hairline and of course placed so they grew in the correct pattern.

Hairline hairs are often thinner in caliber and lighter in color and it all needs to blend seemlessly for it to look natural.

Strongly suggest posting pictures.

You have had a small session which has not turned out well, it sounds like you should be able to have it repaired as its only a small area and you have plenty of donor hair available.

Can you add pictures to verify your claims.

Hello every one. Yes, here are some pictures. The first is before, taken by the clinic pre-op and the second is showing the region operated on, the left hair line area 9.5 months post op. I really just wanted the left hair line thicker, but she placed grafts beyond that and in the front hair line. There was obviously a lack of communication. If you look closely, you will see that no only did this operation obliterate my hair line, but left a bunch of awkward looking transplanted hairs sticking out every which way.

HERE IS BEFORE... I BELIEVE A HAIR TRANSPLANT FOR THIS MINIMAL HAIR LOSS WAS A VERY BAD IDEA!!!

HERE IS AFTER.. LOOK AT ALL THE LOSS. EVERY WHERE THE HAIR WAS TRANSPLANTED, MY ORIGINAL HAIR WAS DESTROYED.

Not the best result by far, you have a good donor supply to have this fixed. Now you're on the forum you can research more reputable doctors.
