Changing your mind pre-op

Hi guys,
Do you think it would be any issue if I told the doctor on the day of the op that I had changed my mind and wanted to go for FUT instead of FUE? I am booked in for a two day FUE procedure with Dr Feriduni in December 2014, and am beginning to think that FUT may be the better bet in terms of yield. Should it be any issue if I change my mind on the day and elect for FUT instead of FUE (I am very indecisive).

I think your best discussing this with you surgeon ASAP...

I am guessing that he went through your options and decided that the FUE was going to produce a good result....

Others may have different opinions, but I do think a good surgeon will discuss this issue with you with no problems...

If you are still not sure which option you want you need to contact the doctor and let him know before surgery, I don`t think there would be a problem switching on the day but you need to be 100 % sure what is right for you before having any surgery.

Cheers guys, the problem is it is so hard to decide between strip or FUE, it seems like a toss of a coin to me, FUT will probably give me a slightly better yield but there is the risk of the scar which is reduced with FUE. Bigmac when a patient is looking at 3000 grafts for their first procedure to fill in midsection and hairline, do you think strip is still the best bet?

It all depends on your donor supply, laxity etc.For me I went mainly the strip route as I don't intend on having my hair shaved down, I got a Ht to have hair and style it. That's my preferred choice but everyone is different, you need to decide for yourself what feels best for you if your donor can supply the amount of grafts you need via both options.

Thanks BM, I don't intend to have my hair short so am leaning towards strip to get the most bang for my buck.

FUE and FUT can produce good yield. Dr Feriduni has posted well documented case's on both procedures so I think you are in very capable hands whichever you choose.I don't know if you've been seen by the doctor as some issues such as mushy scalp tissue or scalp laxity may be the deciding factor in which one is the best option for you. Speak with the doctor so he is aware of your predicament.

Discuss with the clinic in advance if it's an option to change the type of procedure at the last minute. Talk to Dr. Feriduni your concerns regarding pros and cons of both so that you're comfortable in your choice well before your surgery day.

You have to be 100% sure otherwise there is a good chance your expectations won't be met.

Your doctor knows the best for your case so go with whatever he suggests.

I think you need to make a decision before the day of the surgery. FUE could have been recommended as it was an assumption that you wouldn't want the linear scar. You do need to talk to the Doctor as he would have booked two days with you and if you decide for FUT you will only need one.

There are a number of factors to take into account when it comes to what might be the best procedure for you personally.

Unless you have very poor scalp laxity I think it should be a decision that you should make not the Doctor. If the Doctor thought you were a poor candidate for either one then of course you shouldn't go through with that one but if you are a candidate for either then it should be a personal decision. You should call him up and ask his advice.

Both have their pros and cons which have been well debated. I think that your age, possible progression in the Norwood scales, family history of hair loss, your history of Propecia and willingness to use it, your available donor supply over a lifetime with both methods. Whether you wish to wear your hair very short now or in the future ie grade one or two.

There are a number of other factors that you should consider but these are in my view the most important.
