Healing looks right where is should be for one month post op. The shedding can be a shock. You just get use to your new look and then it’s gone. Just have to wait for them to start growing and this stage will soon be forgotten.
Your redness looks ok and I’d say most people won’t realise anything has been done.

6.5 week update
Pretty much all my transplanted hair has fallen out now, except for a few follicles in the crown. My old hair is growing bushy so found this thickening clay which seems to tame my flowing locks. 2nd hair cut booked for this Friday when I hope they can blend in my back and sides better - I had FUT so the scar was initial exposed and hard to get hair really short.

You look pretty much back yo your pre-op stage now. The hair cut will tidy everything up. How has the donor closure healed?

So the donor has been a little problematic. It is still sore but very slowly getting better. The central part is slowest to settle but the sides have healed well.

I remember one of my FUT`s that give me some pain in one area where a nerve must have been damaged. I`d get very sharp pain at certain times when laying my head flat on the pillow. It did heal but I can`t remember how many weeks it took. Did the doctor recommend anything to use on the scar? I applied bacitracin for the first few days, after that just vaseline every now and again.

Yes I have the same. I am using dermol 500 on the scar.

Hopefully, any lingering pain subsides quickly.

hair cut number 2.
So today I am 7 weeks and 2 days following surgery and had my second haircut . The scar is settling and it was much easier to conceal it with shorter hair. A touch of Just for Men to cover some of the grey and we are good to go. There are some short stubble hairs that look like grafts that have not shed on my crown but have also not grown . I assume these are stalled hairs? I have also been getting pimples now and again.

Looks good with the short haircut. Nice to hear the scar is settling down now and easier to conceal. Those short hairs will probably be stalled hairs. I had quite a few of them in my crown. Having someone remove them with tweezers is easy enough. They should just slip out with no force. Some people do nothing, just waiting for them to eventually get pushed out.
Pimples can indicate new growth punching through. Time will tell.
Thanks for the update.

So impromptu update. I am now 10 weeks 3 days post surgery. Looking back at the photos my hair is thickening. I started oral minoxidil post surgery and have been on this over 2 months in addition to the finasteride which is just over a year now….I rub in topical minoxidil every night as well. I think there must have been a number of grafts that haven’t shed . I also think there are some short hairs coming through but difficult to say .Given that I haven’t even reached the 3 month phase I am excited that things are about to get better.

It looks fantastic. I have been now 6 weeks after transplant, and my hair /head doesn't look as well as yours. My donor area still have some empty patches (with some hair now growing) and my recipient area having lost most of the transplanted hair. Hope in 4 weeks I look as well as you. Despite I bought Minoxidil 10% spray, I haven't use it. I had no clear indication when to start and how to use it.

Carlos, it would be great if you could start a thread documenting your journey.

It’s possible you have grafts that have continued to grow. Feeling possible new hairs pushing through is exciting, at this time frame it would be early growth for you. Maybe the meds are speeding things up.

Exactly 3 months today (12 weeks 6 days) since surgery. I can feel small stubble coming through. interestingly my crown seems to be doing the most! You can see a lot of white hairs and stubble- the surgical density was very low here and only a few grafts placed to make it look less shiny but the white hairs seem to be doing well and maybe the oral minoxidil is doing its job- who knows. I am getting a lot of pimples now. Because the changes have been slow I haven’t really noticed them until I look back on this forum. Fingers crossed the growth begins now.

The change is happening. As you say, looking back at your pre-op pictures there is already a nice difference to your appearance. It is possible the oral minoxidil has speeded things up and you may be getting some regrowth of dormant/miniaturised follicles.
Whatever it is, you’re looking good.

Just 5 days shy of 4 months and was feeling that things had slowed down but dug out some pictures I took just over a year ago before starting on any meds and clearly my journey has come far. I hope this helps others my age ….I haven’t really started my growth potential yet.

It is easy to forget how we were before surgery. The pictures you’ve added clearly show your hair is improving. 4 months is early, plenty more improvement to follow.

I am enjoying following this thread. Looking back you were significantly bald over a sizeable area and it’s already clear you’re going to end up with some coverage everywhere, I suspect it’s going to feel like a tremendous improvement by the time it’s all grown in. Good luck for the next 8-14 months

Just 7 days short of the 5 month stage. I don’t feel more hairs are growing but the existing hair getting longer - I may be mistaken. The odd pimple is still forming. Can I expect more hair to grow even at the 5 month stage?

I’m far from the expert but I’ve read about a million threads in the last 5 months and it’s clear that growth isn’t linear and varies a lot between individuals, even with the same doctor. Seems like 12 months is a good stage to judge the final outcome with some experiencing improvements up to 18 months. Still plenty of time for new growth, though I can only imagine the impatience wanting to see the final result ASAP. I’d be 10x worse. You still managing the oral Minoxidil OK? Can’t recall if you were on Finasteride also?
