FUE 1217 Grafts - Dr. Paul Shapiro (SMG) 08/19/13

I had my FUE procedure with Dr. Paul Shapiro (SMG) in Minneapolis.
Tom said - Mine was one of easiest cases he has worked on (coarse thick straight hair). He extracted approx. 1200 grafts within a very short period using SAFE.
Dr. Paul said - One of the difficult cases as I would just not go numb. He was extremely patient and kind.

It seemed to me Vicodin made very nauseous, threw up 4 times after the procedure.
Went for the hair wash at SMG the next day and after SMG gave me the green light I flew out the same day.
I must say the whole SMG staff was very kind and helpful.

Matt - Great guy, his confidence in SMG gave me confidence.
Janna - Very particular about details and a sweet personality to deal with.

Many thanks to this forum and members of this forum for airing their opinions and expertise which I have been reading.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. My aim is to post my experience if it can in any way benefit other members.

Hi Ck,
1200 fue is a modest amount to fill the thinned areas along your hairline/temples, the planning and positioning of the transplanted grafts looks good, the whole area from the recipient to the donor extraction sites looks clean and precise.
Did you have the hair behind the hairline checked for signs of future miniturization? Meds will help with this if you're not already using them.
Thanks for posting your case as small sessions like this to touch up a hairline are beneficial.
Heres wishing you good growth.

Thank you guys for your support, feedback and best wishes.

@jazzyjeff - "signs of future miniaturization" - this was a concern for me as I am not willing to take propecia (tried 2 times at different doses with horrible sides) but Dr. Paul looked over and said he did not see any significant signs of miniaturization though in my opinion there has been a slight thinning in my crown area. I have some pics of my crown area over the last 2 years on which make me think that. I trust Dr. Paul's and Matt's assessment and their prediction of my future potential hair loss.

@dazz - I too look forward to meeting my HT surgery goals.

Hi Ck,

Sorry to hear you suffered from sides, have you tried any of the natural remedies such as Saw Palmetto? Your crown looks good, If you`ve noticed miniaturization its at an early stage, what were the predictions on possible future loss by Matt and Dr. Shapiro?

I have not tried SP, nettle root....but anything with tinkers with hormones (DHT) has scared me.

They said since nobody on either side of my family is more than Norwood IV, there are chances I won't too. They think I have enough donor density (actually Dr. Paul talked about volume of donor hair) to take care of future loss.

I really hope I don't loose more hair man. The HT process is no fun....pain, money, downtime, hits on psyche.

Welcome to the forum Ck, that amount of grafts should make a very nice refinement/improvement to the transplanted areas. The work looks nice and clean.
Shame you have sides with the meds but good to hear Dr Paul thinks your loss should not progress much if any due to family history and the miniturization check.
Thanks for sharing your story and I'll look forward to following your progress.
Cheers Bm.

Hi Ck,

Welcome dude, Thanks for posting and sharing your positive experience with Dr Paul. I agree with the comments so far, the work does look nice and clean as expected and the shaved look actually suits you imo which is cool. Your comment about Dr Paul being very patient and kind echoes my thoughts too....i found him to be a very caring throughout my own surgery...great guy.

Thank you guys for your feedback and support. I really appreciate it. I never knew about this forum and I am glad that I now know.

About the shaved look - Actually many of my friends and my family have been telling me that. I doubt it sometimes coz I have a big head and a wide forehead and I am not a big guy in size 5' 9", 170. I was actually going to meet somebody for a date whom I had asked out when I had a head full of hair (a week before surgery).....I told her I am out of town for a month and a half. May be I will pre-pone my arrival back in the town lol........I hope you all are not messing with me ;)
