I’m booked in for a HT next month so I thought I would provide some info on my situation.

I’ve been on propecia and using minoxidil pretty consistently since around 2012. Before knowing about the meds I had a consultation for a HT back then, I met a sales person on the strand/st Paul’s I think from memory and he tried to book me in for a transplant the following week. After advising him I wanted to think about it I visited a Harley Street clinic, I met a surgeon who advised a HT should definitely not be undertaken and advised to use the meds. This experience alone indicated to me this area of surgery could be a minefield!

I'm now late 30s and I think my hair loss has been fairly stable. Last year I had a consultation with a very highly regarded and documented surgeon's patient coordinator and it was very informative and he advised they would not want to proceed with a HT for myself and to keep my existing hairline and save grafts for the future. This last year however my feeling has gone more from a want to a feel of need where I really would like to enhance/restore my hairline. Whilst the advice given has been taken onboard I feel like my age, approach to meds, and approach to what I want to achieve is sensible and suitable for myself at this stage.

My aim for the HT:
1) be conservative with the donor area with the view future HTs may be needed depending on future loss
2) maintain a mature hairline
3) achieve a natural looking hairline

Choosing a surgeon:
As mentioned before I think this area of cosmetic surgery is a minefield, I’ve never had any interest in looking abroad so I was focused on having this done in London. I had a consultation with a well known and reviewed Harley street clinic. When I met the surgeon during the consultation I felt perhaps a little rushed and then to select other surgeons I decided to consider members of the AHRB, whilst I know that doesn’t guarantee anything it should indicate a certain level of ethics at least. I met a couple of surgeons and decided to proceed with Dr Tam. I found him thorough, informative, approachable, and very willing to provide close up pictures of previous operations to serve as examples of what can be achieved and different peoples hairlines based on their objectives. I had a second consultation to go through design again for which he prepared some ideas based on the first consultation and pictures taken.

Attached is the design from the second consultation, also a picture from 2014 to give a feel for my progression re hair loss

I will try and post updates on here to share my experience.

Your hairline looks good even though it`s receded slightly. Your new hairline design looks good too.
How many grafts are you planning on?
I`ll look forward to reading about how it all goes next month.
All the best.
