NEED ADVICE FUT/FUE MEGASESSION...

Dear wolfsatplay,
There are a few things I have advised before and will do so to you too.

When taking pictures, do the following 3 additional things
1. The front and profile pictures should include the eyebrows. That gives perspective to the doctor/viewer.
2. Mark the hairline on the picture. Graft estimates can vary widely depending on the extent of hairline lowering you wish to go for.
3. Take some pictures with a measuring tape as explained at the following link
http://fusehair.com/node/15

People sometimes forget that there is a difference in size of the head.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Your race and how much beard hair you have. It makes a lot more difference then what people would like to believe.
Hair calibre and grafts/sq cm vary widely between, for example a blond person from Scandinavia (90 grafts/sq cm) v/s an oriental from Korea (40 grafts/sq cm).

Dittoo for beard hair.

We have performed cases with over 6000 grafts from the beard alone.

Result Caucasian pt

On the other hand we have also come across people who have 20-30 hair on their face.

----------------------------------------------------------------
In our experience, we have found (in a combo strip - fue procedure), it better to do FUSE/fue first leaving the strip area to be harvested the following day

Hope this was helpful and let me know if you have any queries.

Regards,
Dr. A

Thanks Dr Arvind,

Oddly enough I sent my pictures to your clinic a few days ago. It struggled a bit with putting a tape measure on my head and taking a picture...

Also, I wouldn't want a lower hairline - i would just fill in existing hairline so i could have more to work with for mid and down. Thank you for replying. I will send these pictures to your clinic

Thanks. I know taking detailed pictures can be a chore sometimes but it does help the doctor make a better evaluation. I shall wait for your pictures.

wolfsatplay,

Janna is totally right that the post op trying to hide the scar would be impossible if you went for a combo of both at the same time. I was meaning that FUT would be best first then FUE if you are looking to maximize your number of available grafts.

Glad you are on fin but stick with it 4 months it really not time enough to see how you respond to it. As Dr Arvind says taking clear photos makes all the difference lifting the donor hair up is the only clear way to tell the density. Be sure to include the full face photo so clinics can see your eyebrows and how high your current hairline is and how the best hairline would be to frame your face. Left and right profile shots are important for the same reason and to assess your temple recession and temple points.

I really would think that the frontal half of your scalp would be best to concentrate on, spreading a few grafts in a crown of that size would really not have much of a cosmetic impact but of course it does depend on the number of grafts that are harvested. A light coverage in the crown would be great if possible and is a natural pattern to see, adding toppik or nanogen can really improve the look.

Thanks for your reply Garageland. I didn't think it made a differene which procedure I got first, simply because nowdays a good FUE surgeon can harvest 4000-ish, and FUT the same....

There are good Doctors who can get large FUE session these days but of course this will thin out the donor area if all taken from the safe zone and mean a yield with strip the second time around will be greatly affected and may also affect the ability to effectively cover the scar without having to wear the hair longer.

Of course others will think it best to get FUE first and that is why research and clear photos will help immensely.

You may decide that you have fue and stick with it if you are happy or you may decide for strip and stick with that a second time around. Deciding on the first transplant is hard enough and I would wait the full 12 months before making a decision on what do to for the second one.

Thanks again Garageland. These decisions i must say are difficult, to say the least.

You are doing the right thing and trying to break down your options that best suit you now and long term.

In good hands there is nothing wrong with combining techniques in respect of healing or being to the detriment of your donor or yield in the recipient; yes as Janna said obviously the "uggly duckling" stage is a little harder as the suture shows, but then again there are many stages in the first weeks/months which are not easy. But medically it is very possible to combine the two techniques safely, it is just understanding the limitations of the donor and skin healing properties to ensure the donor is preserved for any future procedures.

Donor management is vital, hair loss is progressive and it is important that you can yield as much from your donor as possible safely, your donor area will never be in the same good situation after your first procedure, best density, best laxity; planning the first procedure has to take into account the future, real terms your hair/skin characteristics and your goals.

Best wishes with your research

Definately wait the full 12 months after a procedure and then decide on round two.

4000 graft via FUE in one session seems really aggressive and optimistic. FUE grafts are more fragile so I personally think it's too risky to harvest that many grafts via FUE in one session (over 1 or 2 days).
