Hi Staffie

Absolutely delighted to see this.

You only had 1900 grafts? That's a large area to cover, so I think that you have a fair result for the number of grafts.

A big change in 5 months.

My guess is it will continue to develop. You are clearly a late grower. Definitely stronger on the right than left.

What you need to do now is think about a style that will work for what you have.

Your hair looks a lot better now, if i were in your shoes i would grow it out a little and opt for more of a side parting. Do you plan on any further surgeries anytime soon.

Hi guys,

Firstly, many thanks to you all for your positive comments!

When I was taking the photos the other day (the first I'd taken for ages) I was thinking that there had been an improvement but I didn't want to get carried away because I'd gone through the hope/disappointment cycle before because of the situation at 8 months.

I had my review with Dr Farjo and Mick yesterday and they took a considerable amount of time to answer my questions and discuss the present situation and future options so many thanks to them both. Dr Farjo also took some more photos for their records.

My hair these days is quite fine (not in a good way!) so this is possibly why results weren't as evident to start with. Yes, I am certainly considering another procedure in the near future (and more again after that) as I always knew one procedure wouldn't be enough. At 8 months I was wondering if there would be any point but I am now keen to improve the situation.

I have to decide where I want future grafts to be placed. I think everyone who has given me advice so far has said to forget the crown and concentrate on the front although Dr Farjo/Mick also said that if I wanted to partly deal with the crown another option was to consider placing some grafts in the front part of the crown (obviously at the expense of fuller coverage at the front). If I have a second (and third) FUT procedure Dr Farjo has estimated 1500 grafts x 2 with some more available by FUE so perhaps 4,500 in total. All I have to think about now though is where I would like the next 1500. I will try to take some more photos in the next day or two to show the overall situation and would, as always, be grateful for any advice.

This forum has been a great help to me so I will try to provide more regular updates from now on. I've had a difficult few months (on the domestic front) but things seem to be on the up.

Thanks again to you all!

Staffie

PS I almost forgot, I have been using Minoxidil for the last 2.5 months and initially decided against Finasteride because of possible sides but think I may well now give this a go as well

This is just my personal opinion from my own experience and what I have seen over the years. I think you should concentrate on the area sometimes referred to as the extended forelock. Just behind the middle of the hairline and then back connecting the lateral humps.

It seems to be the most critical area where one needs to have density. You can look at this thread to get an idea of where that area is located.

BTW your present work is very natural looking and that is half the battle with a hair transplant, so you are moving in the right direction.

Hi Topccat29,

Many thanks for you positive comments and the link to your artwork! I'm learning all the time when I'm on here.

I also read through your in-depth comments following the illustrations. Your point regarding the problems associated with a high density hairline (especially for those with limited donor) is well made and seems to make a lot of sense. I will certainly bear all this in mind for the next procedure.

Cheers!

4 awesome repairs with SMG
I have to agree that there has been considerable improvement since your last update. I hope your like me and don't get any sides from the Finasteride.

Hi Steve,

Many thanks and welcome to the forum!

Yes, at one point I was wondering if anything much was going to happen but I'm sure you will find others who have felt that as well as some of the instant success stories.
As I'm sure you will have gathered the important thing is to do plenty of research and make sure you have your work done by an accomplished surgeon with a professional team. There are quite a few stories on here of people having 'botched' work done because they didn't (or weren't able to) do adequate research. You will learn a lot on this forum so I'm sure you won't let that happen to you!

I think many people (particularly first timers) find the waiting for things to happen a little nervy because everyone is different you can't be totally sure how well (or quickly) things will happen. I think if you've done enough research and also considered minoxidil (which I think I should have tried earlier), finasteride and dietary factors then you will be well placed to formulate a plan.

Whatever you do best of luck to you!

Hi all,
Just posting a few more photos at almost 14 months post procedure. I still have to decide whether to use my next 1500 grafts (FUT) at the front only which is what most people seem to think is the best idea but my crown doesn't look good to me (obviously). If the front was thickened up and I grew the hair out a bit my concern is that this would emphasise the crown even more than a shorter cut (I can't have a 1/2 cut (or even slightly longer) because of scalp damage.

I'd be grateful for any opinions on the photos.

Staffie
PS Just started Finasteride and have been using Minoxidil for 3 months

and this isn't too good

Dr Farjo has told me that my estimated remaining donor (4,500 grafts) won't be enough to give realistic coverage all over so I will probably go with the frontal coverage and discuss the option of a sprinkling to the front of the crown

Any thoughts

Hi Buddy

Great to see your update as I am sure many others are your hair is still maturing and your moving forwards for sure , IMO I would put the next 1500 grafts at the front a 2nd pass will certainly give you a boost for sure , also take into account it takes time for the Finasteride and the Minoxidil to kick in so hopefully you will get some good growth to the crown from the meds while the 2nd HT is growing out , the Clinic estimate you have 4500 grafts left so you would in theory have 3000 grafts left and their is always the option to have some SMP as well , I wish you all the best my friend and all I can say is keep positive I had a great response from the medication but I noticed that about 4 months on the Finasteride and Foam together

Cheers

Hi Dazz,

Thanks for the encouragement! I realise that the drugs will take time. SMP is definitely something I want to check out as well.

I have been mega busy but will be checking your progress (and others) at the weekend.

Cheers

Staffie
