Thinking of a hair transplant in Turkey

Hi guys,

I’m 31 and I’m a Norwood 5 going on 6, I’ve started finasteride and minoxidil today to see if it makes a difference as I’ll be looking to do a hair transplant next summer. I’ve messaged various clinics from what I’ve researched to see what it would cost and how many grafts I’d need. All of these clinics say they can only cover the front and middle area as my crown is advanced and my donor area isn’t enough to cover the crown

I would say the medication option first is the wisest thing to do. It may bring back some hair to reduce the size of your bald area, improve the crown dip in the donor and help keep what is left of your native hair. That I s a long list you have compiled. You need to narrow it down yourself to the clinics you think produce the best results and that will fit your expectations. Will you be happy with the front half only?
Have you tried shaving your head to see if you are comfortable with that look?

I forgot to mention, it will be fue that you are looking at but a strip may be a better option. Look at Hattingen Hair, they are a world class clinic based in Switzerland. They have lots of results posted on this site.

I won’t be happy with just the front half but it all comes down to cost. If my experience with the first surgery isn’t great then I definitely won’t consider another one for the crown area.
I've tried the shave look twice and it isn’t for me. I usually go for a 0 back and sides and leave the top as it is even though there isn’t much there anyway. I just cannot deal with the shaven look, it looks terrible on me. I tried editing my post but I can’t find the edit button, I wanted to add I’ve also messaged Vertex/Dr.Barghouthi and HDC to assess. I need to narrow it down to clinics that only deal with 1 or 2 patients a day and with the doctor overlooking most of the surgery

Price is a factor to consider but should not be before quality. If you believe 2 or 3 clinics produce the same results, then the price could come into play. Not all doctors are equal, even if they are pegged as such.

Hello Needhair.
I see you have a pretty extensive list so far. If you can whittle it down to 3 clinics over the next few weeks, then do more in depth research on them.
You say you won`t be happy with the frontal half only. You may not have enough donor availability to provide adequate coverage in the crown area if you decided on a second surgery.
You have quite a bit of loss which could progress further. Your crown loss has dipped down towards the donor area. Future planning is essential. If you do have surgery, you want the transplanted hair to be natural looking if your native hair loss continues.
If your lateral humps drop you could end up in a situation where the transplanted hair becomes detatched from your native hair.

Progressive hair loss

Me personally, I think the advice offered of trying Finasteride or other for 6 months, then reassessing your situation is the way forward. There is a risk of sides, hopefully, you respond well to the meds and don`t suffer from any side effects. 6 months should provide ample time to further research the clinics you settle on.
