Transplant without drugs

Hi, I visited Farjo's around 6 months ago and have been offered a date to have the surgery done. As someone who suffered with anxiety many years ago I really don't want to take the drug to stop more loss after reading some stories, I know there is suppose to be a small percent react badly but it's not worth the risk imo. My loss is pretty advanced so is it a total no no without the drugs or is there any other way?

When I asked the clinic the response to not taking drugs was not good, I am 43 by the way.

Thanks Paul

There are a lot of scare stories all over hairloss forums about Finasteride.

But the way to evaluate such stories and really put them into context is to research the poster(s) whom is spreading these stories. They are not medically qualified to make such judgement and are only offering their opinion.
By looking at their previous posts on a forum you can easily ascertain that persons mindset and character and the reasons for such negativity.
In all my years of researching hairloss, i have yet to read anything from reputable sources that would discourage me from using Finasteride. Thats not too say it is perfectly safe, but we are responsible for our own judgements in life and if you never take a risk you will never reap the rewards.
On another note, it is often reported that 2-5% of users may suffer from some form of erectile dysfunction. If you gave 100 people a Sugar pill (placebo) and told them to take it for a month and it will make you feel healthier, but there is a risk of sexual side effects. I bet your last dollar that at least 5% of users reported that the sugar pill gave them temporary side effects. The mind is a very powerful tool and is exemplary at playing tricks on ourselves.

The problem with some of the studies that are put out by drug companies is one really does not know what to believe. The industry has become so corrupted from top to bottom that making a decision can be difficult. If taking a medication for life is something you think you can do than it might be an option. Personally if I were at square one I would just plan a hair transplant around not using medication but that would just be my personal choice. Yes I would have much less hair but I would be okay with that. I would do what I could with what I had or I would do nothing.

One really needs to understand what goes on in the pharmaceutical industry. I have read volumes over the years along with having some firsthand experience on how the business side works.

A recent book I read that covers some of the history but also includes other areas of politics in general which might not be of interest yet I thought was very good as it touched on many points regarding medicine. Our health is our most precious resource without it we have nothing and all the hair or money in the world is not going to make a difference.

€œMonumental Myths of the Modern Medical Mafia and Mainstream Media and the Multitude of Lying Liars That Manufactured Them € €¦ €¦ €¦ €¦..I know quite a long title and the author seemed to be very passionate.

That's the problem though Coopman the stories arent just on forums but blogs, youtube etc and it is not about being qualified these are people's personal stories. There just seems far more than the occasional scare story, the internet on loads of different levels seems to be full of them. It's just scary when you read them especially when I have suffered with certain symptoms in the past that seem to come up, it's a balance if it is worth it but there seems to real study and a range of 'Don't go near it' to 'You will be fine don't worry' which seems you can be lucky or unlucky.

I have no probs without meds but as my hairline recedes would it not look silly? I have been told they can do it but only so much as there is not that much donar hair, so going back later seems a non option, I would accept a little more at the front. I can post a pic if it would help. Also on another note can you keep your hair short, like a grade 4 with a transplant or will it be very noticeable and look like a pin cushion?

Thanks for any advice guys, so on the fence if to go through, money is not an option, just how it may look in 10 years time without meds.

Sure that would be a good idea, post some pictures.

Sometimes maybe a hairline is not an option but going back in time a few years with the donor you have and establishing what was there then. Could just be the forelock or connecting the lateral humps with a few wisps of hair in the forelock.

Maybe post a picture of now and one from 3-5 years ago.

Here is the link to an initial post I did before going to see Farjo,

http://www.hairlossexperiences.com/view_topic.php?id=3520&forum_id=2&jump_to=31569#p31569

The pic is about 6 pots down although shaved you should have a good idea, I actually shaved it this morning so this is the best I can do for now. I don't have one from 4 years ago unfortunatly. I would settle for going back a few years in time but again the loss in ten years may look silly, not sure and the reason for asking. i think they said they would leave a little donar hair but it would be minimal as there was not too much to work with and they seemed keen to get me started on meds, just don't think that's an option for me personally.

Again thanks for answering

If it were me I would do nothing................

Why do you feel you need to do something now, if you don't mind me asking and you don't mind sharing. Don't feel obligated if it is too personal.

BTW I wanted to show you what I meant but you might not be a candidate. I think and this is just my personal opinion is that guys who really don't have much donor should maybe just try and connect the lateral humps and add some hairs to the forelock, more or less hair in that forelock area depending on what is possible as opposed to trying to establish a hairline. Anyway it's just a thought because this is something I would do myself. I think it's a good look.

Never really come to terms with losing my hair I guess, a lot say don't worry it suits you, but it's always there and I hide behind caps and hats a lot, maybe I need to just bite the bullet and embrace it. I also lost a lot of weight after a break up and probably want to try and finish a new me off.

More confused than ever now :)

Have you tried Rogaine(Regaine), it is quite possible that you may experience some positive results after 4 months usage.

If you go into an MMA gym all the guys have shaved heads regardless of if they have hairloss or not as grappling with hair is difficult. They are all without a doubt confident guys. Look at all the major athletes in the world that have huge levels of confidence in fact look at anybody that really excels at something and they all possess confidence regardless of hair. Confidence does not have to come from hair maybe keep moving in the direction of modeling these examples.
Keep an eye on the industry and maybe better options will be coming down the line.
