Which UK hair transplant clinic to use?

Hi all,

Just starting my research into a hair transplant, to potentially have done early 2024.
I have sent a couple of enquiries to UK based and also Türkiye based to compare prices and services.
I was quoted between 3500 - 4000 grafts for £3k at NowHairTime (Türkiye) plus travel expenses
I was quoted 2000 grafts for £6k at Hair Doctor (Leeds)

I've seen some fantastic reviews on NowHairTime but the thought of travelling abroad, seems a little too much hassle.
I've seen fantastic reviews on HairDr for Pre-Op services, although some really negative feedback on the outcome of the operation.

I'm based in Yorkshire and would ideally like to have the operation in the UK, I can then be home within 24hrs rather than 4 days.

Any feedback on both the named, recommendations or conversation on your transplants, would be really appreciated!!!!!!
The price difference is hard to ignore, double the grafts for half the price at NowHairTime is significant. The travel hassle to Turkey is usually overstated, most clinics handle accommodation and transfers and it is really just a few days out of your life for a permanent result. The negative feedback on Hair Doctor Leeds actual results is a red flag worth taking seriously. A great pre-op experience means nothing if the outcome is poor. Also 2000 versus 3500 grafts is a big difference so getting an independent assessment of how many you actually need would be a smart first step before committing anywhere.

The term graft can often have a loose meaning, so important to confirm how they define "a graft". The surgical definition is -
"A graft is a surgical procedure or horticultural technique involving the transfer of living tissue (skin, bone, plant shoot) from one site to another to grow or heal."

This is a general description, when used for a hair transplant it often takes on a specific description, especially so with the FUE technique. A graft equates to an intact follicular unit (FU), a FU can natural contain one to four hairs per FU, an intact FU is a group of hairs, naturally growing in a bunch and removed intact by the FUE punch. These FU bunches grow around the head, with more 1 and 2 hair FU´s around the sides, and an increase in 3 and 4 hair units around the back of the head. As well as having larger hair units the back of the head is often a slightly higher FU density compared to the sides.

So, when talking about graft numbers the definition needs to be confirmed, does the clinic harvest and keep intact naturally growing follicular units, and harvests single to four hair units. Or, do they remove the hairs, break down or divide the larger hair units into individual hairs or smaller groups, and continue to refer to them as "grafts".

On a procedure of say 2500 grafts, using intact follicular units, the hair count is likely to be around 2.3 hairs on average per grafts, with the total number of hairs from 2500 graft totally around 5750 individual hairs. It is possible if a clinics splits all the multi hair units into single hairs that 2500 grafts equals 2500 hairs. This will have a huge impact on the quality of a hair transplant result, the distribution, density and look of natural fullness when grown out.

This could also mean quoting higher graft numbers is an irrelevance, and using intact FU may not even be required to create a perfectly natural coverage and look of fullness. Graft numbers are only relevant when all aspects are considered, intact follicular units are used, there is a good average number of hairs per natural FU and aspects such as hair characteristics are considered when mapping the distribution of hair over the surface area. More is not always better, especially if not required and especially if paying per hair, it´s a false economy.
