Hi AFA7. It is difficult watching your own progress and comparing it to others, especially if the others have had great growth around the 5-6-7 month mark. Looking back at your pre op picture I see you still had quite a bit of hair in the forelock which was also transplanted Into. This area was the first to recover with the existing native hair and possibly some transplanted hair. The hairline and temple corners which had no native hair are looking thinner right now as the growth has not yet matched the forelock.
I can see the outline of the hairline and the growth you’ve already had for 7 months. I think the next few months will give a better indication on how it will turn out. You still have enough time to experience more growth which will hopefully meet with your expectations. Some patients don’t have any growth at 5-6 months, then they get a big burst. For now, all you can do is wait and try not to worry which I understand is hard.
Many patients like myself will use fibres or other concealers to compliment the growing hair until they need it less and less.
Definitely see the clinic for the suggested 9 month follow up. It’s good to write down beforehand anything you wish to ask.
I hope that helps you.
Bm.
Cheers bigmac,

I spoke to the clinic today as I haven’t really seen anymore growth in the passed month, they’ve advised me to come in for an in person assessment in 2 weeks time so hopefully this will give a better indication of how things are going.

If you could ask for pictures to be taken with the same angles and lighting as your surgery day, then a better comparison can be made.
I hope all goes well for you and you get the answers you’re looking for.

Yeah I will do mate, these are the photos that I’ve sent to the clinic today that are a bit better quality, once I’ve been to the clinic I will post those pictures aswell.

How was your experience at the clinic in the end?
Sorry mate been busy with work this last week.

I did come away feeling a bit better about things than when I went in.
I did express concerns especially about the right side temple having little growth and they agreed it was a fair bit behind the left side.
They took some comparison photos which I’ll add, things obviously aren’t where I’d expect them to be at the minute but I was assured that different people grow at different rates.
The Dr also used the microscope camera which did show a number of unmatured hairs aswell as a small number of hairs breaking through. Which I’m hoping can add some density but I do think the right side needs to see more growth for that to happen.
Dr arshad did say if things didn’t improve in the next 4 months he wouldn’t be happy with it and a top up would be offered which would be a few hundred but he said he’s still hopeful that the result can be achieved in the next four months.
I also said I wasn’t sure whether at this age a second procedure would be a good idea, which if needed will be something I’ll have to think about.
I do think even in the last couple of weeks with the photos I’ve taken(yesterday) myself I’ve seen a little improvement which I’ll add aswell.

I’d prefer to reserve judgment on how it looks untill 12 months, I appreciate peoples concerns not just on my post but on others aswell but I’m not looking at this as a result as they’re is still time for improvement and I don’t think it should be completely judged until the 12 months is up.

Thanks for the response and the pictures.

Interesting you mentioned you were not sure if you wanted a second procedure at your age, which I can understand your predicament now. What was the response to this?

I said I wanted to see how my hair holds up over the next few years as I wouldn’t want to use all my grafts up and The Dr said I should be fine with it as the donor is so strong and it wouldn’t be many grafts but it’s something I’d have to have a long think about.
Have you spoke to the clinic much over the last couple of weeks?

To be fair they are clear with top up required can be taken in your own time so it’s nice to not feel any pressure at all!

Had a phone call from earlier with Sommiya who did say my hair is not where it should be, offered me other advice, a general discussion around my hair, what we can do further down the line with a top up etc.

Hang in there mate, we are all in this together.

Another day, another poor result from this surgeon.
This is happening far too often and they are recommended surgeons via another well known hair restoration forum.

There are too many poor results for this to simply be a coincidence.
I think it is beyond clear that this Dr is simply not very good and should be avoided.

yes they offer good aftercare in that they offer a free top up, but why would you want to go back to a surgeon that couldn't get it right first time, and not just for you but for many on here. Whilst they may be supportive post procedure, their results of late, and posted by real patients are not good

As I said in the previous post I want to reserve judgment until 12 months and the final result, the purpose of this post isn’t to slag anybody’s work off and I don’t want it to turn into pages long of critism, it is to give an unbiased honest view of my journey to help people that might be going through the same thing.

I will chime in here and say hold in there. My hair is still improving and I’m coming up to 15 months pre HT. I was lagging behind for a while until around month 9 and it started to improve a lot. I’ve booked my top up with The Hair Dr for the end of the month and it’s only to sort out a little bit in the middle and my right temple. I think 300-400 graphs so not much from my donor area. I’m happy to have a top up if needed and glad it’s included in the price. Yes we would all like to just have one procedure but with every kind of surgery there is never a 100% guarantee

I would have to agree that I would've expected more at this stage considering the amount of grafts used.

Personally, if I had any doubts about about a clinic / Dr's ability I wouldn't go back, even for a free top-up (Just my opinion). You're right though that you need to wait until 12 months to fully evaluate the result, I hope it works out for you in the end.

My post was certainly not to slag the surgeons work off, but it is becoming more increasingly evident that his work is just not that good. That's not me trying to be nasty, that's just based on the results we see on here

The hairline has taken shape which takes away the receded appearance but lacking in density so far. The next few months will hopefully provide more growth and maturity that will make you happy. It’s good to hear you were able to see some growth ready to happen during your clinic visit.
Try to stay positive, the race ain’t over yet.
All the best.

10 month update:

Not much progress has been made unfortunately, as with many others I’m still lacking density especially in the right temple but all round it’s still below expectations.
Since I last updated I have been offered 3 PRP sessions by the clinic of which I had the first on the 2nd November and I’m due back in a couple of weeks time.
The clinic are committed to getting the result we both want and have been good in communicating with me, offering support, which I cannot fault and my hair is looking better than it did this time last year but it’s obviously a big disappointment with how low the yield is looking like it’s going to be.
There does seem to be a number of thinner hairs which can be seen in the photos with the flash but not in the natural light as well, I’m hoping they can add a bit of density but at this stage I don’t know wether it will make a huge difference.
