To me it doesn't look too far off considering the complications. I bet in the next 2 months you really see a big difference.

24 week update

I thought I'd post some photos of how my hair is looking now after attempting to style it (with matte wax, no fibres or anything). The new hairs definitely have a frizzy, unmanageable feel to them without hair product. Is this normal? They seem to just stick straight up haha

I also had Surgery with Dr. Ferreira but I'm only 2.5 months out.

It looks like your growth is on the slower side but hopefully it's just from the issues that you had early on.

Because of this, the hair you have is fairly new and I believe it takes about 8 months or more for the hair to thicken and mature. Until then, I think the hair can be weird, thin and unmanageable.

Have you reached out to Dr. Ferreira? I hope I'm wrong but I think if by month 8-10 this doesn't fill in more, you might need a touch up. Still time for it to happen though and hopefully it's just the early issues that set you back some.

@Bigmac can probably shed more light on this though since I'm no expert.

Thanks for posting!

I would agree with @JoeMan that it seems to be a little behind the timeline what we usually see and also how it looked for myself.

You are at 5 months and 19 days after the transplant. When I say "usually" it is true that for most people most grafts have sprouted at 6 month mark.

There are late growers aswell, and you might very well be one of them.

Can you see any small hairs coming through the skin in the less dense areas if you take a closeup photo?

The work looked very clean and Dr Bruno Ferreira is a great Dr in my opinion.

The hair can take the full 12 months and sometimes beyond to fully mature. Until then, it can have a mind of its own. At 5 months I’m not concerned about your growth, it’s within the average timeframes. Lately there has been some exceptional cases of early growth but we need to remember, this is not the average. For most, growth starts anywhere between month 3 - 6. Your growth has started which I feel will improve greatly in the following months. I can see the hairline shape is there, it was non existent prior to surgery. Slow and steady wins the race.
Here is a quick comparison.

7ish Month update

Hair seems to be growing and getting thicker every day, here's some photos with it styled, flash, no flash etc around a week after a fresh haircut. It's still pretty damn hard to style but overall i'm pleased with progress so far!

It is looking good. You now have a full hairline and the density looks to have increased since your last update. At 7 months there is plenty of time for more growth and maturing.
When you say, having trouble styling. What troubles are you having?
Is Dr Bruno Ferreira happy with your progress?
Thanks for the update.

Yes hopefully the density increases dramatically soon, I can feel lots of prickly hairs coming through which must be a good sign?
It's super frizzy and sticks up loads when its dried after a shower!
He contacted me via whatsapp at the 6 month mark and he was pleased with the progress, not sure I would be bothered to have another surgery regardless, the recovery sucked!

Did the doctor comment on the slight (pinkish) skin discoloration that is still seems to be present at 7 months?

I haven't spoke to him since month 6 to be honest but I guess "it is what it is" at this stage?

Well certainly you’re not ok with a possibly permanent discolored scalp, I hope. I would ask him what he thinks..

I doubt it will be permanent, I have seen people prone to redness have it for a long time, in rare cases up to 12 months. I am at 8 months and mine has just faded, I get redness very easily.

It would be nice to get a quick boost but as long as it keeps improving. Yes, feeling the stubbles of new hair poking through is a positive sign that more growth is on its way. After your hair goes through a few growth cycles it will eventually sort itself out. Good to hear Dr Ferreira was happy with your 6 month update. Hopefully, you won’t need another hair transplant but hair greed is a real phenomenon.

I see the slight redness being mentioned. Some patients do take a lot longer for it to subside. If your skin type predisposes you to redness, it can be difficult in some cases to get rid of it, but it will fade with time. Usually if there is a scalp issue you will have symptoms such as itching, pain, burning sensation, the redness spreading, but to me your redness is mild and it`s the camera picking it up more. However, if you do have any concerns, reach out to Dr Ferreira who will advise accordingly. Just to be on the safe side.

You seem a very pessimistic person to me, I'm only at 7 months and it doesn't concern me at all as I will never have my hair shaven and it's not visible in normal light. Have you had your HT done? Fingers crossed you've no complications, slight redness etc!

Thanks Bigmac for the comments. If I did need a top up hair transplant i'd most probably wait a couple of years anyway as I will be doing another backpacking trip around the world at the end of this year!

With regards to the redness I really don't think its that bad in person so maybe it is the lighting/ flash, on my next round of photos il take them outdoors with my professional camera :) Thanks again

9 Month update

Quick update at 9 months, I've been growing my hair out and it seems to be getting thicker/ more manageable which is good with a defined hairline. Although it is still relatively thin just behind the hairline and has a few "bald" patches, weirdly where the scabbing issue was. Fingers crossed more hair growth there will happen. In the meantime i'm debating going for a shorter style on top to to disguise the thin-ness. Staying optimistic and positives as i've got a few more months to go for a final result...

Heres a load of photos outside, inside, flash, no flash etc. I've just got back from a sunny holiday so my scalp looks super white compared to my forehead which has tanned

I think it looks like more hair have sprouted and your hair have also matured alot and thickened up in these two months.

It looks like one side got some spots which have grown less, for what reason its difficult to say, but you mentioned excessive scabbing in certain areas, where you feel these "gaps" are.

How do you feel overall and have you talked to Dr BF about your concerns?

I did some comparison photos between Month 7 and Now.
