Would like to share my experience on a recent FUE hair transplant procedure with Dr Mark Tam and highly recommend him for anyone looking to perform such procedure.
Am in 40's with receding hairline as getting common nowadays and thought it a good opportunity to use lockdown to get a hair transplant.
Chose Dr Tam after research through several websites. My general recommendation for anyone looking for a good doctor would be to ensure they are registered doctors (check UK's general medical council register) and part of one or more general hair transplant organisations such as BAHRS, ISHRS and ABHRS. Forums like this website with real life experiences are exceptionally helpful as well. Dr Tam fit my requirements.
PRE-OPERATION
Post research, contact with Dr Tam by email was quick and appointment for video consultation followed by face to face consultation was held, both have a fee but worth paying.
During face to face consultation, went through detailed analysis, photos, design options, donor and recipient status using microscope, density achievable, risks, allergies, etc. that concluded in a design and number grafts that could be achieved.
All questions after consultation were promptly answered by email or phone.
Pre-operation information containing Do's and Dont's provided and discussed.
Dates and pricing fixed for the transplant.
Pricing is transparent and available on the website.
OPERATION
The day of operation began at 08.00.
The room was ready with all required equipment, felt comfortable, covid free compliant, using PPE and all precautions taken.
Additional 3 staff members who were proficient and caring answering all questions and helpful in every way.
Consultancy re-done to ensure design as discussed before, risks, allergies and procedure explained.
Followed by haircut all over.
First part in the morning with anaesthetics followed by hair extraction from donor. The anaesthetic injection stings a little, but is effective pretty quickly, numb from there on.
Break in the middle for lunch and graft harvesting.
On to the second part with anaesthetics in the recipient part and graft placement.
Towards the end, provided with a kit including saline water, medication for anti-fungal infection and pain killers, special cap, cleaning material, etc.
The key to the whole procedure is patience!! There is TV and OTT platforms like Amazon prime to help through.
POST-OPERATION
Post operation, had a face to face appointment 12 days after to go through the recovery and any concerns.
Any questions in between promptly answered by email or phone as well.
In total, my experience has been excellent with Dr Tam and would definitely recommend his work to anyone looking to perform FUE.
