I know what you mean Sparky, I wasn't too happy at first, some more of my hair has fallen out since I penned my original post and there's no obvious damage (and the clinic couldn't see any) so I HOPE! all will be well in a few months time, started to look (again) at some other members stories/pics etc, seeing their finished results is starting to make me just a little impatient already! Far too soon for that!

I'm sure it will be fine, it's not like he went out of his way to do as much damage as possible, I've heard of people really banging their heads and the growth being ok.

I suppose it's natural anyway to feel a bit nervous about the outcome. Everything went well with me regarding recovery etc but I still tried to sleep a little upright for a week or so post procedure. Staples didn't cause me any major problem but if I lay directly on them they were a little uncomfortable.

Time will tell!

Hi all,

I only realised when I was doing the last post I am almost 1 month post procedure so I took a couple of pics after I had a shower today (head slightly redder than normal). Most of new hair fallen out but not all.

Can anyone please tell me how to upload more than 1 photo per post? (2nd photo below)

Hi Staffie

Redness takes time to go, avoid having really hot water on the scalp as this will exacerbate it and make it look redder post shower, so going warm rather than hot is better. Same for hair dryers, sauna etc.

Skin tone plays a part also and lighter skinned usually need more time for the redness to go as opposed to darker.

Also flourescent light seems to show redness more than natural lighting and most people photo themselves in the bathroom so you probably look better than the photos show if taken under that lighting.

I encourage patients to massage well, apply aloe vera and vitamin e, good diets etc will all help with healing.

I also used a laser comb post surgery that sped up my healing on my last surgery, but an optional not a necessary requirement as such, but as a famous shop chain says, "Every little helps".

Above all keep positive but looking good so far.

Many thanks for taking the time to visit and for your good advice!

I realise now that I may have given the impression that I was concerned about the redness but, as you say, it is induced by heat and only temporary (my scalp doesn't seem at all red now) so yes, I would have given a truer image if I had waited a while after showering before taking pictures.

I do have a good diet and have been careful to use only the recommended shampoo/conditioner/lotion after my HT and am actually very pleased that I have had a trouble free recovery (no pain worth talking about after 24 hrs, no swelling, even the staples didn't bother me too much and were (virtually) painlessly removed so all in all I couldn't have hoped for a better result so far.

Yes, I am staying postive and looking forward to the Spring, Summer and beyond!

I've never heard of a laser comb, I will investigate!

Waiting to achieve full results can be long sometimes but time will go by faster if you're able to keep your mind off the growth. Looks like you're healing and progressing nicely.

Yes, I am keeping busy. Time is a strange thing isn't it? In some ways 4 months can seem a long time to wait for results, in another sense it seems no time at all since I was sitting in the treatment chair in the clinic. I always feel that once you hit the halfway stage for anything time speeds up. I'm very glad I made the HT decision and also glad I am getting involved in this forum, I've learnt more in a few days as a member here than I would have done in several weeks looking in from the outside!

I have to agree with you Staffie, this forum is great for learning about Hair Transplants, before I joined I knew very little about them.

Hi Shiny,

Yes, I had learned enough to confidently go ahead with my HT but I also realise now how much more there is to know about different procedures etc (in my particular case it didn't matter about the FUT scar because a Bruce Willis skinhead/no 1/ or even no 2 are not really options for me because of the previous damage to my scalp).

Over the weekend I will look at the stories of all those who have been kind enough to drop by and offer me advice /encouragement etc (that I haven't already). Having been a member for less than a week I can certainly start to give encouragement to new members but will be careful about giving advice to others until I'm sure of what I'm talking about!

Yes, changing to a better diet approx 10 years ago has made me feel much healthier and more energetic! I stopped smoking 17 years ago so I'm sure that's helped too! Just need to sort the hair out now!

Hi all,

An update/short story.

A friend of mine I haven't seen for a couple of months came by today. This is (more or less) how it went from greeting her at the porch door to sitting at the kitchen table and beyond:

Me: Hello

She: Hello

Me: How are you?

She: You look different

Me: Do I?

She: You've grown your hair

Me: Yes, I've let it grow out a bit (I have)

She: It's not just that, you seem to have more hair now, you haven't been using one of those growth shampoos, like regaine or something have you?

Me: No (I haven't)

She: My brother has been using some of those shampoos and lotions for the last year or two but they haven't worked for him

Me: Oh! She: So come on (she is now standing looking at my head while I am sitting at my kitchen table) what have you done, it's almost like you've had a hair transplant or something!

Me: Really!

She: Well, no, obviously not, I can't see any marks or anything but you've definitely done something!

And so, I then told her all, she's a pretty cool person and she only had 2 questions:

1. Where did I have it done? (I said Manchester because I knew she meant geographically) [/*]
2. Did it hurt? (I said no)[/*]

I explained the procedure to her briefly and said if she lifted my hair at the back she would be able to see my donor area/scar. She did and said "Well, only barely" so that sounds good, I haven't seen it myself yet!

I told her that if she thinks all looks good in 3/4 months time I will give her Mick's (Farjo) business card in case her brother (I've never actually met him) wants a consultation.

When she left she asked me to ring her when it all grew out properly because she wanted to come back for another look! (Many of you will know how good this feels!) I am only 1 month post procedure and I think (I could be wrong) that I have shed 80 percent plus of my transplanted hair so I find it remarkable that someone would feel it looks so different at this stage. Getting quite excited (although admittedly a little nervous) about the eventual outcome!

Having looked at Dazzter's story a few days ago I have been wondering whether I should consider meds such as regaine/finasteride? I would be grateful for any advice? I didn't have a lot left up top pre procedure so it may not be necessary as I will certainly be having at least one more procedure?
