Repair sessions can be costly and usually require several sessions, therefor its vital to do your research to gain the best possible chance of a satisfactory outcome. The physician you choose should formulate the best route for the repair work.

Here are few known repair techniques:

Camouflaging is the technique where follicular units are placed in and around the larger grafts to hide them or improve their appearance if the hairline requires a softer and more natural look.

Graft Removal of misplaced hairs or old plug style grafts is needed when its hard to camouflage them. Removing grafts in this manner is called punch outs. The grafts are removed, dissected into individual or smaller follicular units, and then re-implanted in their proper location and direction. Areas where larger grafts have been removed may need to be sutured closed.

Laser hair removal is an option when the transplanted grafts are small, but placed in the wrong direction or location. Laser hair removal usually requires multiple treatments over many months to remove the hairs which once removed can`t be used again. Sometimes the laser treatments can soften up the hairs up enough that destroying them isn’t necessary.

Strip/FUT scar revision is when the original scar has stretched more than anticipated. The old scar will be cut out and re-closed providing the patient has enough donor laxity. This will hopefully provide a satisfactory thin scar line. Other options are FUE or SMP into the scar to help camouflage it.

FUE scarring can occur when a large punch is used or the extractions are too close together, this can lead to a moth eaten look. Grafts can be placed back into the area although this is usually not an option unless the patient has sufficient body hair where grafts are extracted from the beard or chest and the placed back in the donor area as a filler. SMP has also been utilised successfully to improve the appearance if you prefer shave your head.
