1 mg Finasteride is the generic form of Propecia. 5 mg Finasteride is the generic form for Proscar. Proscar or 5mg Finasteride will need to be cut in 1/4th or 1/5th and taken orally on a daily basis. 1mg Finasteride or Propecia is the optimal dosage to treat hair loss and increase chances of hair growth in men.
Genetically inclined men are hypersensitive to a hormone called dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which can damage hair follicles and lead to hair loss. Finasteride works by blocking the creation of DHT. By reducing the levels of DHT in the body, Finasteride can reverse balding.

Finasteride is a hair loss treatment for men only. It must not be taken by women or children. Pregnant women must not handle crushed or broken tablets of this medication.

Doctors will usually advise you take this medication for twelve months to see results, it may not stimulate new hair growth but could slow down or stop the hair loss progress.

There is a possibility of unwanted side effects, such as decrease in labido, among others. If you suffer side effects, you should cease use and seek a medical opinion.
