Thanks BM - as the growing process continues for 18 months I'll still keep the forum updated as I'm still hoping for more coverage / density.At 12 months it looks very good. The difference from your start point to now has changed your whole appearance.Growing out your hair and styling it must be a good feeing for you.
Enjoy all your hair now.
Thanks for the update and for documenting your journey so well.
All the best.

Thank you for commenting on this forum as its people like you that make it what it is and your experience is invaluable for those of us considering a transplant or going through it for the first time.... Huge thanks for your consideration of others.

I've just had a haircut which will shows the 1 year result far better so I'll take some photos today and post them up as soon as I can.
You cannot underestimate the good that you do for other people Kevboy - the hair transplant industry is unregulated and it is so easy for someone to make a mistake / use the wrong clinics / surgeons..... these things affect people lives forever and the advice and experience of people like you is invaluable.Thanks Cooty. Bm gave me a lot of private advice that helped me and giving back by supporting others is my thanks to him.
Hi, cooty! I hope you are doing well. Will you tell us from what month you started to apply Regaine (perhaps you mean Rogaine)?Hi May, you're at that awkward stage at 3 months and one of the many things I've learnt from the forum is to be patient - its not easy and of course we don't know what to expect so it really helps to get comments from the experienced members of this forum for their advice..... its really helped me and put my mind at rest when I was concerned as it does take ages to get full results; as much as 18 months.
I see you're on finasteride so that will help you (I'm not due to sides), but I am on Regaine, and something that may help you with growth is that I take the following; Collagen, Biotin, B-Complex vitamins, Zinc, Vitamin D3, Iron and vitamin C - I take these daily as I read that they help with hair growth and quality.
The other thing that will help you is that you went to the best (IMO) hair transplant clinic - I'm going to go on your own transplant post and comment on there when I can. Good luck
Heya May, Regaine and Rogaine are the same product just marketed under different names in different countries.Hi, cooty! I hope you are doing well. Will you tell us from what month you started to apply Regaine (perhaps you mean Rogaine)?
Heya May, Regaine and Rogaine are the same product just marketed under different names in different countries.
I started Regaine about 2 years before the transplant - unfortunately I can’t say whether it really worked for me as I during it I was diagnosed with a serious health condition and needed emergency surgery so had to stop taking it for 4-6 months so any hair gained or retained would have been lost in that period….. so I apply it now in the hope that it will help me retain the native hair that I had at the time of the transplant… as that’s as important as keeping the newly planted hair.
I hope this answer helps?
My health condition was not related to the head however it was cancer and I noticed my hair thinning increased quite a bit around that time which is why it’s difficult for me to judge whether Regaine worked for me or not. Before & after my surgery I had to stop taking Regaine - I think a total period of 4-6 months, after which I continued Regaine having my hair transplant about 8-10 months later. With regards to the period of hair loss following the transplant (known as ‘shedding’) this started from about 2-4 weeks post transplant and lasted I think for about 3 months or so - sorry to be a bit vague but I’ve been taken ill recently and so I’m not quite with it due to a combination of antibiotics and painkillers!Thank you for the response!
That serious health condition was related to the head? Sorry for asking. If it is too personal then do not answer.
The main question is: after HT, when did you start using Regain? And was there a so-called synchronization phase when your hair (native and transplanted) fell out? If there was such a phase then what was the period of its duration and when you came back to observing growth again?
We see you have been through a lot man! We are glad you live your golden years with a full head of hair!My health condition was not related to the head however it was cancer and I noticed my hair thinning increased quite a bit around that time which is why it’s difficult for me to judge whether Regaine worked for me or not. I do hope these answers help - but do let me know if you have any further questions.
Normally its two weeks, in my case it was more like 5-6 weeks after as a skin blemish / rash became apparent and we didn’t know if it had just appeared or was always there and so we delayed Regaine until 5-6 weeks after the transplant in case applying it caused any probs…. the skin blemish is still there so must’ve been permanent but never noticed as never had my head shaved that short before!We see you have been through a lot man! My main question is: after HT, when did you start to apply Regain? After 2 weeks. Or maybe in the 2nd month? Or perhaps later?
Thank's for sharing the experience. I am thinking of starting to apply 5% minoxidil (Kirkland) but what if there is a risk that during the first couple of months, I would have shedding as an immediate reaction to that alcohol-containing liquid. What if my native and transplanted hair would start to fall out for the first months of using minox. I guess you did not have such an effect after you start using Regain after 5-6 weeks post OP?Normally its two weeks, in my case it was more like 5-6 weeks after as a skin blemish / rash became apparent and we didn’t know if it had just appeared or was always there and so we delayed Regaine until 5-6 weeks after the transplant in case applying it caused any probs…. the skin blemish is still there so must’ve been permanent but never noticed as never had my head shaved that short before!
Good point - and I don’t know the answer to it so recommended that you ask your transplant clinic / surgeon or someone here on the forum may be able to advise. AllThank's for sharing the experience. Hello Cooty! I hope you are doing well. Will you remind us how many singles were tarnsplnated on you?Photos 1 year after transplant - and 6.5 weeks since my last haircut. Thats the good thing about having hair now - don't keep having to cut my hair so often and can let it grow without it looking odd or trying to cover balding areas...... its worth it just for that!!

Hiya May, apologies for delay in replying but flat out busy at the moment - to answer your question I had the following;-Hello Cooty! I hope you are doing well. Will you remind us how many singles were tarnsplnated on you?
Thank's for the response man!Hiya May, apologies for delay in replying but flat out busy at the moment - to answer your question I had the following;-
376 singles
2's = 1,931 grafts / 3,862 hairs
3's = 2,043 grafts / 6,129 hairs
4's = 549 grafts / 2,196 hairs
Total 4,899 grafts / 12,563 hairs; which was 2.56 hairs per graft which they said was good and above average donor.
To all readers, be careful who you go with as some clinics which are highly revered told me that my donor was bad which nearly made me not go ahead with the transplant as I didn't want to end up with not getting the coverage I was after and then having a scar as I'd not then be able to shave my head; the only two clinics that gave me accurate hair door appraisal were Hattingen Clinic and the Maitland Clinic; I went with Hattingen as they were able to perform large transplants in one session, whereas Maitland can only do up to about 3000 grafts and then you have to wait a year before the next transplant to finish it off. Also, whilst Maitlands results were good, Hattingen's were by far the best of ALL clinics (and I did a LOT of research), and they also reassured me that they would get the amount of grafts for my coverage required.... which they did as the graft/hair count above shows.
I will do that when I next have a haircut so you can see it clearer as my hair is quite long nowThank's for the response man!
So 376 singles. Will you post a photo with a high resolution with brushed up hair to give us an opportunity to look on the naterlness of the hair line plsease? I will do the same when I reach 10 months.
